hi,
anyone used some foam like the one used for mattress for insulation in their teardrop?


I have access to a large quanties of foam like the picture above in 3 different thickness for free . I will use some to re-do my mattress but i was wondering if i could use it as insulation?

I'm just wondering if the foam would be a fire hazard. All the shows I've
ever seen about fires all point to upholstery foams as big fire accelerants
in house fires. If it's open cell foam It may not bee too good in very humid
conditions. It all depends on what kind of foam it is. A lot of the foams
formulated for insulation have no-burn properties - either melt or self-
extinguish. Find out what kind of foam it is and check out it's properties.
Free is nice but know what you're getting into. My general impression is
that closed cell foams are best for insulation.

There are some foams that are fire retardant in their composition, and are widely used in aircraft seats, one thing you could do is " bag" them in some waterproof, fire retardant envelope, you really don't want to have a wet piece of foam inside your walls.

I use ridged blue or pink house insulation type foam.

and I have 2 inches of it thick in my walls and my ceiling.

Same here, I have 2 inch insulation ( rigid white foam) all around, walls, floor, ceiling, and back wall, sort of a " cooler".... works excellent in both extremes....-10F ( tested) and +110F during the day( also tested, with a fan, because I sweat like a pig...hehehe)
