Using a tarp, good or bad idea

Postby LDK » Sat Nov 05, 2011 5:22 pm

I was thinking about moving my tear out of the garage and using a tarp to cover it. I was just wondering if thats a bad idea. My camper is white painted aluminum but I also have decals on it. Would the tarp mess up the paint and the decals? I figured I'd post this question before I run out and buy one.
Thanks

Larry, thanks for asking this question--it's one that I have. I hope you don't mind me tagging onto your post.

My SideKick is fiberglass and it will be outside this winter.....any ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if tarping your trailer will mess up your deals or not (no real experience with that), but as long as the aluminum is painted, you'll be fine. I do NOT recommend tarping a trailer that is bare aluminum ... the trapped moisture between the tarp and the skin directly beneath it will stain unprotected aluminum.

Good Luck, and as always ...

A trailer cover is appropriate but it needs to be breathable and is not going to rub I will be having Paha Que make one for Compass Rose and no they will not mess up graphics.

Jus an idea I once saw...try puttin a car tire TUBE ( inflated) on top of the tear and then cover as neccessary...That will keep the tarp OFF yer decals,etc..Heck, I'll bet even sum pool toys would do the job..

Hope that helps..

when was the last time you saw a car tire inner tube? I haven't for years, maybe decades. I used to see truck inner tubes around into the '90s but haven't looked since then.

+1

Anything less will cause chaffing damage and can also trap moisture in the trailer causing terrible damage you won't discover until spring....

The best cover you can get will not touch the trailer, allowing it to breathe.

Of concern to those in heavy snow load areas is the potential for snow/ice to accumulate so much the roof cannot handle the weight.
Installing an interior floor to ceiling brace will eliminate that concern

Everyone, thanks for your input. Shadow catcher, thanks for this link http://www.pahaquecustom.com/ . I'm gonna order one for a 4ft. wide tear. hopefully it won't hurt my graphics.
