Why build?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby Verna » Thu Nov 10, 2011 4:51 pm

I bought, and I am happy. While I know I have the ability, knowledge (from here  ) and tools to build, I really don't have room to build. Plus my sister said she would never camp in a TD because of claustrophobia. I enjoy traveling with my sister, and giving that up wasn't worth it.

I've only seen four TD's up close and personal. Two were made by brothers and were for sale. While the price was great, one had massive water leak damage and I questioned when the leaks would start in the 2nd. The other two were manufactured and they were nice.

So, I have a TTT that is small (people ask where I left the rear half of the trailer  ), it's comfy, warm (or cool), dry, off of the ground and plenty of room so there's no worry of claustrophobia.

I like the T&TTT and I feel that I'm accepted here, even if I didn't build.

Oh, and don't expect the smell of morning coffee coming from my camp site......I don't drink coffee

The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Why YES,Verna.. you certainly ARE accepted here ! I love yer little trailer !

But .. OH MY.. no coffee ??? Hows bout tea ? I am more a coffee guy, but I also carry tea.. yer welcomed at MY fire ANYTIME !

It would seem as tho we T&TTT folks are more interested in who we can ADD to our "camp" ,rather than who we can exclude.

"I" personally have met sum of the finest6 folks on this God's green earth right here on these forums and at the campgrounds than I would have ever imagined meeting in my WHOLE life..3 cheer fer T&TTT people !

Coca-Cola Classic is my choice, and I always have plenty to share. I love the smell of coffee brewing, but it all tastes bitter to me. I've tried to drink coffee, but I'll just stick to my Coca-Cola.

As I've said before, I've always felt safer in a campground than in a motel, and I know all of you guys and gals are wonderful people. I'm looking forward to next year when I can actually meet some of you in person.

Thanks

Yes, brew an extra for you, Jerry, and I'll pull my Coca-Cola out of the cooler.... even if there's snow on the ground and it's sub-zero, I'll still have my Coke :D

So you ARE gonna make the January Shivaree.

P.S. All said I am still a hot chocolate kid at heart. I take both and seem to gravitate to the hot chocolate more than the coffee.

I think the main reason people build is to get exactly what they want. If you can find that already built and you can afford it, why not? Think how much you will save on bandaids.

I built because I could not find anyone that built a "standie' that was garageable, and it didn't have to fold down to get in the garage.

If one was available, I would have bought.

I never said I was going to make that brrrrrr-January Shivaree, Bob :? I don't do well in cold. Did you know it snows in January in Indiana, and it gets cold?????? :?

Did I mention that I like a hot shower in the mornings and I don't think the campgrounds in Indiana have hot water in the winter....or do they????

What is the date, anyway :D

Coca Cola.. it's the caffiene I guess. One thing is for sure.. I won't tell you what to drink.

I have a complete Coca Cola theme that I dress up my "rig" with from time to time...And that is when I also have an ice chest FULL of coke!

I am building because I wanted a trailer that would fit in my garage and that I could stand up in. I have a HOA restriction on trailers parked outside. Also I am on a tight budget. I looked at several used pop up trailers for sale locally for a month and they were all garbage for my price range. They were all so rough I thought it would be easier to start from scratch and get what I wanted rather than stripping these piles of garbage I was looking at down.

30k I wouldn't even spend on a new car! if I really wanted to buy I would have found a used little guy or something. I prefer to create things, boats mostly, but the TD was something I needed and really enjoyed building, the great compliments on how it looks and what a great idea it is are worth more than 30k to me, not to mention the chance to get away with the wife at the drop of a few dimes.
