Quick question on door location

Postby Glenn Quarles » Sat Nov 12, 2011 1:29 pm

Hi guys, I started building my TTT a couple of days ago and have a question about the door opening. Should I run the bottom of the door opening all the way down to the floor or stop the opening above the floor leaving a lip (this is what the plans show). My thought is to go flush with the floor to make sweeping, etc easier and to not have to have the lip digging into your legs when sitting in the door opening...

Thanks!
Glenn

Here's what I'm doing. Although I haven't started making sawdust yet.

Keep in mind how thick your mattress will be also how tall is the door. how tall are you sitting? If you have some lip on the wall it will help keep your sheets & blankets tucked in too. You are right about the lip hitting your legs while sitting in the door , thats why you need to know how thick your mattress will be, you can make the lip about half the thickness of the mattress and probably not getpinched. Good luck/1

If it's a Tiny Travel Trailer (TTT), run the door all the way to the floor. But if it's a teardrop your building, then the lower door seal should be up from the floor at least half the thickness of the mattress. :)

Thanks guys! It looks like I will leave the lip as shown on the plans. Besides helping with the sheets/blankets what is the purpose?

I have found tri-fold foam matteress in either 4" or 6", what is common?

Thanks again,
Glenn
