Being single and sometimes feeling like a third wheel the I ask the organizer what is needed sometimes it's not food but plates, cups, and utensils.
which makes for an easy pot-luck for me, I have also boughten big sheet cakes.
when I go to my camping group in Florida they have so many people show up that it takes a lot of food and the tail end Charlie's don't have a whole lot to choose from.
they try to make it fair starting with the alphabet first night and reversing it the second, now the chilly dump it's eat until you drop first come first served if you wait you have some very strange chilly.

And you wanted to figure out what to bring to a potluck... I noticed the deviled eggs went really fast!

I just noticed that you are in my neck of the woods. Which camping rallies do you have scheduled? Like someone said earlier you don't have to cook a big pot for 50 people. With that said... and on a different note... you might be interested in the upcoming event for dutch oven cooking at Doheny State Beach, Jan. 14th. People that are interested in learning come to observe and learn, and are welcomed by the host group.

Cliff, maybe next year you and Vanessa will make the Buckskin mtn. Gathering. There are several from SoCal that go. It's a good 'kick back' type gathering. And there is a couple of swap meets in town that weekend. The weather has always been good. Like I told Doug, no rain or snow.

Yes, I do hope to be able to make the longer runs to different rallies. There is a long list of places I would like to visit and check off the list. I am getting some things crossed off the project list on a budget, and can see a teardrop build at the end of the tunnel!

Look at it this way Cliff. It's just as far as Pismo (well, maybe 50 more miles) and it's not for teardrops only. All three of my trailers have been there (but not at the same time).

Hi Cliff,
We are very close neighbors. I am in Whittier. I do not have any outtings scheduled other than Buckskin at this time. It comes down to economics. My teardrop is about half done and I just picked up the 10' Red Dale in September. Buckskin will be our first real outting in her. I have this crazy illness that makes me want to travel and I have to infect my grandson so he can see the country too. I have to balance putting funds into the tear and outtings.
The DO event may be something fun to attend I will have to see what my work schedule and bank account will allow.

Understand about having to stick to budgets. There are many rallys to attend during the camping seasons. I could run down a list, some that are not posted on this particular forum. Some are word of mouth. In any case, I know we will run into each other down the road. If you have any questions about upcoming events, I may be able to steer you in the right direction.

I don't know if you are interested in camp cooking due to your request for potluck suggestions. The event in January has nothing to do with vintage trailers or teardrops, but a group of people passionate about outdoor cooking. You can visit for just the day as many do come to see what it's all about. You don't have to cook, and can just observe if you wish. I do a little cooking and a whole lot of observing.

As I was scrolling down towards your post, I was thinking that making deviled eggs is a lost art, I have not made them or seen them in a long time! The last time I took them to a pot luck, they disappeared in no time. I'll dust off my recipe, and make a batch for the next get together.
