What's For Thanksgiving Dinner?

Postby Bigwoods » Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:40 am

Might cook the traditional dinner that I usually make, Turkey with all the fixin's. My Grand Daughter wants me to make Enchiladas. Wife says no way but I am deliberating.

What's everyone cooking and do you have certain traditions that are a must do?

I have invites to two dinners one Thursday and one Saturday.
I think the phrase " My Grand Daughter " says it all "Enchiladas" will make a nice side dish.

have a gud one no matter what you have.

We are hosting. Turkey with deer sausage stuffing. Brown rice stir fried with egg, walnuts, dried cranberries and sweet yoshida. Green bean cass. with onion rings on top. Sweet potato pie with sour cream and brown sugar nut crunch topping. Cabbage salad. Baby potatoes roasted with olive oil and course salt. Some kind of pie, maybe a pecan pie piled to the ceiling with cool whip. Its gona be a train wreck! 8)

P.S. I think I am going to have to do a cobbler in the DO too.

I'm not doing anything. Oh wait...I'm the cook. If I want to eat I'd better find something in the cupboard!

Maybe some DO chicken.

I don't have any family nearby (except MOM) and not much family left anyway, so the tradition sort of died. I may make mashed potatoes. I could eat those for days on end, so I might just make a big bowl of them. Was kicking around a DO dish to go with it. Just not sure what. Unless I make a cobbler or something with my frozen blackberries!!

Traditional turkey, smashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn, cranberry sauce, dressing, gravy, pumpkin and apple pie, simulated homemade noodles (with a brand name of "Reames"), wheat rolls, and some coconut shrimp. We normally have some peel and eat shrimp, but I haven't been able to find any fresh, not frozen, shrimp, so I opted for some large coconut shrimp. Something different. I'm not going to make my pumpkin pie cake this year. Delicious, but I think we have enough food already!!!!

I'm doing the cooking/baking, and then taking it to my sister's house for the feast.

The real challenge will be babysitting for my 6 month old and 3 year old great-nephews while I doing the kitchen/baking/cooking thing.....Aunt Verna will pull it off :D :D :D

I have been assigned the making of a huckleberry pie. I just made a practice one today. I needed to see how the berries are. Our crop was late and the berries were not very sweet tasting this year.

The practice pie turned out fine. Yummmmm. I may have to go cross country skiing tomorrow to work some of it off.

I'm cooking a roasted turkey stuffed with sage/thyme/basil and onions, traditional southern cornbread stuffing, non-giblet gravy. Sheri is doing the real mash potatoes and green beans and corn casseroles. Her mom is bringing sweet potatoe casserole and we were sent a bunch of pies from the teachers Sheri teaches with. Not sure why the sent us the 2 diabetics the pies but I won't be complaining .

Hope ya'll have a wonderful Turkey day!

Cliff & Sheri
