Todays $10 find 413G and a 1990 285 lantern

Not sure what to do with this yet pretty rustyand was full of mouse nest and fuel cap is rusted on.
Not sure of the year (dont know where to look on a stove) so I may just blast the whole thing down to bare metal and repaint.

The bail nut was rusted but the mantles were intact and it held presure so I used itself to put heat and lube to break the nut loose.

And the bonus there was 3 packs of mantles in the box.

Well looks like the 413G is a loss the mouse nest has taken a toll on the bottom.to many holes to make it worth the time.
The burner and tank should clean up so we shall see. :(

You may be able to put a false bottom in the stove to make it usable. Also if you turn the tank over sometimes there is a date stamped on the underside of the tabs. Where did you come up with these? $$$$
Looks like a project.

Scott - Dont chuck the stove. Even if you think it to be a basket case just keep it for parts.

Hey, I have an idea for the lid of an old Coleman stove. I was taking apart a 426 so I could clean it all up and paint it, and it occurred to me that the lid and the side shields might work perfect for wind protection for a Dutch Oven on a windy day ! I have not tried this because I do not have an unrestorable stove yet, but wouldn't that work?
It would be light and already hinged, and serving almost the same purpose it was designed for !

Anyone done this?

On that 413G...you might have a valve. The tank is probably not usable based on the rest of it. I'd bet it's full of rust. They are so plentiful, it's not worth messing with. Doug

The tank and burner cleaned up pretty good,The tank still had some fuel and still holds pressure.I may just say screw it and clean the rest and just use it as is.I'll take some pictures in the morning after I fire it up.

Lookin' good...may be a keeper after all!!

I have been working on my lantern today...still can't get it apart, but used some rubbing compound on the paint. My lantern may just match your stove...usable but not pretty. Hey, if it's too pretty some fool will walk off with it while you are camping anyway!!

Good luck on cleaning up the rest of the stove!

Does it always burn orange? even after it warms up?My guess would be a cloged generator try running some carb cleaner or Seafoam in with the gas or take it apart and give it a good soaking. One other thing it may have a spider web/nest in the bunson.

I like the red on the lantern!!! What paint did you use? It looks really good!

I think this hobby is one where you are never done. Always something. But would it be fun if it was easy? Or if you could buy pristine pieces for your collection? No. That's why I'm struggling with my lantern. I wanted a fixer, and I got it! :D
