First road trip results

Postby jss06 » Thu Nov 24, 2011 8:59 am

I had my first overland trip this last weekend. Overall I am very impressed with the trailer and have decided how I want to build out the galley.

Fuel Economy:
For the off-pavement section I averaged 13.1 MPG with the trailer behind the Jeep.

For On-Pavement I averaged 14.2 MPG at 60~65 MPH.

The trailer is very stable and pulls well behind the Jeep. Not bad at all for an off-road built trailer.

Looking Good.
Just out of curiosity what sort of mpg do you get with no trailer. I was feeling bad because we only get 21 mpg when towing Compass Rose, this with a Subaru Outback 3L H6.

The trailer loaded for camping is about 1400 lbs.
Empty highway fuel economy on the LJ is 17 to 18 on the highway. Depends on how heavy my right foot is.

This trip was through the Texas hill country and most of it was run with the overdrive turned off.

John,

Your off-road teardrop looks fantastic! Congratulations on your first outing. I bet y'all had a great time.

Take care,
