That is one hell of a great buy!

My First Up will soon start it's 5th year so I think it
was a great investment. It like Carl Malden says
" Never leave home without it" It has endured torrential
rains. 35 MPH wind driven snow, Baking sun and crazy
wind storms. Once I put it up it stays up. I see many
fellow campers who panic when the wind picks up and
take theirs down to avoid damage. To me this is when
they really need it most. Trying to keep a camp stove
lit in a 20+ MPH breeze is near impossible. I just toss
on the solid side curtains and position the 10x10 over
the galley and we can just laugh at the wind and
rain/snow. Someone on here passed on a pearl
of wisdom that I had to test on our fall gathering.
If you drop the leading edge of the shelter the wind
will actually help keep it in place since it is acting as
an air foil and the wind is now pushing down on the top.

When mine goes up over the galley in inclement weather
we strap it from the frame under the belly of the teardrop
and back to the frame with a good quality ratchet strap.

The rear is anchored the same to a heavy wooden
picnic table where possible when one is not available
I have strapped to both fully loaded coolers and any
other heavily loaded tote or such.

Walmart is almost nuts when seasonal clearance rolls
around.
I walked in 3 years ago in late October / early November
and the igloo cube coolers ( about $30.00 retail ) were
marked down to $5.00 I bought
all they had :D . Ironically the foam toss away cooler on
the shelf right beside these were still $6.95 Go figure.
Growing older but not up !

Great ideas on tying down the 10x10!!!

I used to run a Scottish clan tent at various Highland Games in the area and saw many 10x10's pull up stakes and fly away when the wind picks up. I did get a 10x10 for my tear and have been wondering how to make it safe if the wind kicks up. I'll check out anchor points on the Grasshopper and take my scooter tie downs with me for the tent.

I also have sides I bought on clearance at Orchard Supply. I need to try all this stuff out and see what needs modification before I head out to camp in the spring.

Meanwhile..keep the great ideas coming!!! This forum and the people here are great!!
