General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Slow, good for you and your observations of life and your thoughts of the plight of our great country. Many are out of work right now, but not many are able to look on the brighter side as you are. I am grateful that I got started in my Carpenter's retirement fund way back in 1950. It makes my life so much easier now that I am retired. I bask in the glow of many of my friends here on the forum and am looking forward to the next TD & TTT outing on the Colorado River next weekend. (No ice to break in order to see the water, but all the food to be eaten by us city folks, will be store-bought stuff) Have a good one.

Ok Slow. I can't see anybody else picking up on this, but. Why are you starting up the combine this time of year? You have some dry corn to thrash?

I would have said "Thresh" but I ain't no green horn just waiting to get tossed out of the local farmer's cafe.

Only city slickers say "thresh"

Hey, Slow Cowboy, and you others here, I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful, because I know mine was.

I'm thankful to have been able to have Thanksgiving Dinner with my two sisters, my nephew, his wife and his two sons. I'm thankful the dinner came out to be the "best Thanksgiving Dinner ever prepared by my three Aunts", as my nephew put it :applause:

I'm also thankful I was able to spend a full day today of "hunting" (I'm not a hunter--just went to spend the day) with my brother. He's a 4 year cancer survivor and I didn't think I would have a brother 4 years ago, but he's here and we had a fun day of traipsing in the woods today. Trust me, no squirrels were harmed in this adventure

I'm really thankful for this wonderful place called T&TTT, a place to hear about camping, about friends and about how to share information.

Thanks to all of you.

Congrates Slow on getting that Greenie running again.

When you mentioned the machine has sat a while one of the first things I wondered about was the condition of the belts. Specially the ground drive belt and the separator belt. I been down this road a time or two myself.

The last two years they been getting me a brand new JD Rotory to try and keep me happy. the STS 9770. With GPS. The GPS is nice but there is a lot of other electronics on it that I really question the intelligence and family history of the people that made it.

Next year will be the new JD model. I don't know the number of this one. It is nice to be running a new machine. I have ran a whole mess of old ones in the past. In the late 50's I started working on combines with my dad's 92 Special Massey. It had a flat head Chrysler 6 under the feeder housing. I was the smallest person around the farm then so it was my job to service that mill.

This year I trashed about 2000 acres of wheat and pinto beans in about 5 weeks.

You go Slow. Get them rascals out of your feed.

I have had several run ins with neighbors horses and cattle in my place and not from a fence "accidentally" coming down. 22 Cal pistol does wonders.

:x :x

I didn't start really running a combine until all most 30 years ago. One very important lesson is, a tight cylinder will not crack grain. High speed on the cylinder is what cracks it. Remember, speed kills.

A tight cylinder will plug up though. and we don't want to go there. Do we?

I have not thrashed oats but I imagine you will not need much air. Just play with the sieves. Not sure on the settings of those.

Ok, enough farming talk. See you later

Hey Slow it sounds like with all your economic challenges perhaps things happen for a reason. Like when you said you were about to go do some cowboy stuff like you were born to. May be where you are is right where you are meant to be. Taking care of the farm and being with your folks and eating home grown. You are truly blessed. I envy you.
I too am blessed but am a country girl at heart. I can fix more things and out build most of the men I know and that scares them. I still live in the town (suburb) I grew up in because I stayed close to take care of mom. Now I am here because of my job (really blessed to have it) but I would love to live out in the middle of nowhere someday. In spite of what I want, I am blessed to live in America, have strangers fight for my freedom, have all the food I need, have clothes on my back, have a roof over my head and have the people in my life (including everyone on the forum), for my dog and my very old cat, my children, and most of all my grandson.
Wishing everyone what they need first and what they want next.
