Just thought I would say hi. I have been lurking for a few days and decide to register. All I think about these days is building a teardrop. My wife hates the idea, but after the divorce I am going to get started..... No, im not joking. lol.

I am an aircraft composite tech by trade and racecar fabricator by hobby. I figure this tear drop thing should be somewhat easy. Planning to pick up the $250 Harbor Freight trailer, make any needed mods and improvements to it for longevity and stiffness, then build on top of that. Hoping to really keep the weight down since I will be pulling it with my 07 Civic Si sedan. I have a full size silverado for pulling the race car, but it would look silly pulling a trailer that could fit in the bed.

I also want to look into laws to see if I can pull the teardrop behind the race trailer. That would be very helpful if I could. Cut down on hotel costs.

So, I guess that wraps up my howdy

Welcome Phil,

We look forward to your build. You mentioned the HF trailer. Are you going to do a "conventional" build for the shell or will it be a composite shell? Either way, we look forward to seeing you get started.

Take care,
Tom

I am very back and forth on the shell construction. I am very tempted to do a foam core/fiberglass shell to save weight and also make waterproofing easier, but cost is a big factor. I am doing this as a very budget friendly project. Camping itself isnt so much a hobby of mine as camping helps me afford my hobbies easier. Although, I do plan to use it for recreation as well. The roof mostlikely will be fiberglass with wood sides.

Welcpme Phil and good luck on your future build! In most states you can only do the 2 trailers if the first one is a fifth wheel. In some states not even that.

Cliff
In God we trust, shoot the rest and he will sort out!

Oh well, it was a nice thought. I guess I'll build a car hauler with a camper built in at some point. Still gonna build a tear drop
