Kindle vs Nook

kind of a tough one, we do have a barnes and noble within 50 miles so.. hmmmm decisions decisions decisions...

I got a kindle a year ago as a gift. I use it just for reading and really like it. I especially like the matte non glare screen.

The kindle program can be put on any computer and my husband has put it on different computers as he likes his print larger than my kindle screen. One time up at my daughters I forgot to bring the plug so I could recharge the kindle, but with the whispersync the book I was reading was also on the lap top so I ended up reading it on that since I didn't want to wait until I got home to finish reading. What a difference on the eyes, no comparison between the two!!

I can read for hours on the kindle but not on a regular computer screen.

So in many ways it just depends on what you get is to be used for.

Yep, the traditional Kindle and Nook are both more limited than their predecessors, but there is really no comparison between the eInk screen (original) and the LCD screens you find on the Fire and your computers.

As much as I enjoy a backlight, backlighting really isn't good for your eyes. The diffierence in full sunlight is pretty amazing as well.

I have had a kindle touch for about a month, no complaints. One thing with Kindle (from what I have read) you have to have an amazon account with a credit card on file, even with a gift card, you have to have a credit card, and when the gift card is empty then it switchs without notice to the credit card. My nrphew is getting a Kindle for Christmas, so I think I will get him a prepaid credit card to set the account up.
One thing that sort of bugs me is that I can't see how far to the end of the current chapter. I did catch myself looking at the edge of the Kindle once to seel how many pages were left, felt kind of stupid.
I wish I would have looked closer at Nook, but I don't like Barnes and Nobles, kind of stupid reason, B & N bought out the Sutdent owned bookstore at my alma mater.

Linda loves her Kindle. I got it for her to work her mind (after her stroke) by reading and it has really paid off. We both have read several books using it. Downloading is easy and there are many free books. One thing that is handy is an auxillary light to use in the car on trips.

I bought the simple Nook touch about 6 mos. ago and am satisfied with it. Got the wifi model, not the one that requires a data plan on a phone network.

Consumer Reports has gone back and forth as to whether the Nook or the Kindle is best. Either seems to be a fine choice.

The best part about electronic books is you don't have to find a shelf to put them on!

I can take off for a week of camping carrying hundreds of books and magazines for around the campfire and not even carry a charger.

Just FYI, the Kindle Fire uses a lot more power and needs to be charged a lot more often (has 7 hours of reading on average). I can turn off the wireless/3g on my eInk Kindle and the battery lasts a month.

Not sure how the Nook fairs with battery.

I have 766 books on my Kindle Fire! I've read about 30%. Some are reference books. I'm still discovering things I like and dislike about the K Fire. So far, I really like it.

I wasn't too attracted to the Fire. My main complaint is the problems with the LCD in full sunlight. Of course, I'm currently doing 90% of my reading on an iPad which uses an LCD screen, so take my hypocrisy for what it's worth.

When I had my Nook it seemed to last a couple of days. My Pandigital last about a day. But you can still read while charging. The nook was great for reading outside. I can still read the pandigial in the car. I have not tried it outside yet.

I splurged on a Nook color earlier this year, and I love it for all the things mentioned - holds a ton, long battery life, magazines in color, SD card expandable, easy to use operating system, searchable library (great for finding my recipes in various mags and books!), lots of free or under $5 books, books from the library, B&N free book every week, and also has 'net connectivity whenever I'm near wireless. For the price, it does everything I want to do and is amazingly light and portable compared to toting a half-dozen books and mags around. It can also read any .pdf file, so I can take work reference stuff with me, edit it, and not have to lug a full briefcase of looseleaf stuff with me.

I resisted ereaders for years, but now I love my Nook color!
