New to Forum

Postby Vedette » Thu Dec 01, 2011 12:10 pm

Hi
New to the Forum.
I have always been a camper, but have never towed a trailer!
Diehard tenter all my life.
We have always had a Street Rod, and attend many car oriented events each year.
I have always had a yen to own a Teardrop?
Well know that I await my 60th Birthday & Retirement it is time.
So, as a Street Rod builder and Restorer I have started a new winter project.
I hope I am welcome here as my new trailer may be a little "outside of the box" for some.
It will share some of the same concepts as a "Traditional Teardrop" but will be a little more "Automotive" in design.

Are You ready?

My "trailer for two" is based off of a 1960 Simca Vedette and will be towed behind my wifes 1961 Studebaker Hawk or my 1946 Studebaker M Series PU.
The plan is to keep it under 1000 lbs with about 60 - 70 lbs tongue wt with "Rubber Ride" suspension. It will be the same configuration as a Teardrop with the kitchen in the trunk and a 80" - 84" sleeping area.
The plan is to have it ready for our first Rod Run in May 2012. And ready for a 2 month 10,000 mile tour of the US in the summer of 2012 once the bugs are worked out.
I will post again under "Vedette Trailer" in the General Discussion are of this Forum.

Nice Idea

I like the idea of a TD being built from an older vehicle, but a Simca? I would be thinking of a 50's Morris Woody or something similar. We would love to see your two SteadyBreakers. I have always been a fan of them. Welcome to the site and good luck on the build.

We have several American almost lookalikes

"image" a 58 hudson or a 56 57 rambler american They are almost dead ringers.

There are some similarities in the DeSoto and the packard images also.
Growing older but not up !
