Prentiss Waber Sears Lantern Restoration

Postby Lazybones » Fri Dec 02, 2011 4:05 pm

A few days ago I started working on another of my lanterns. A circa 1935 Pre Way Sears.

It was very rusty and had a broken globe frame. So; I disassenbled it and took it to a friends and bead blasted the parts. Then I TIG welded the frame back together ans painted it with VHT silver.

I did a bit of research and found the Fount was originally nickle on this model. But; had been painted over because the nickle was shot.
Not having the money to renickle I decided to repaint it.
This is my first attempt at painting a fount and am pretty happy with how it turned out!

Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

Well done Lee...can't complain on that one...it looks like it did have some serious pitting on some of the parts. Not all that hard is it?...and it's just a few hours of time to get some fantastic results. Cool lantern, looks like VHT Rustoleum silver. Doug
