Cooler Stand?

Postby driftwood » Sun Dec 04, 2011 7:02 pm

Looking for some type of fold up stand to hold a 54 quart stainless ice chest. All the bending over to the ground gets old. Seems like I saw a photo of one somewhere on the forum but cant seem to find it. Did a forum search for "Cooler AND stand" and could not find one. Anyone have any ideas?

Was thinking about something like those foldout stove stands that Coleman makes but would need some mods I suppose, and not sure it would hold the weight.

I use a cheap folding plastic table under mine. It could be higher, but, it's what I had.

If I were to buy one on purpose, I'd get one of the folding wooden tray tables from Wal Mart for <$10.

Here's what mine looks like in use

Shoot! Never thought of a cooler stand! What a great idea!! Might have to get one of those Walmart tables or something like it from a thrift! I like that cooler cover, too! Is it insulated to help keep the ice from melting as fast?

The cooler cozy is a trick I learned at last year's DAM Gathering. Mine is made from 1/2" bubble-pak insulation taped together, sewn into a fabric cover.

My minimal effort improves my cheap cooler from a 2-day cooler to a 3-daycooler. A 50% increase for no materials cost and an hour of my labor.

I keep the beer and soft drinks in the built-in ice box in the trailer. Being more than 60 years old, it's no good for food but keeps the beer cool enough.

@ OP you're right all that bending sucks.
I use an old yard sale Walker for our cooler stand.
Works fine for us.

One thing about elevating a cooler: I would think that the ice would melt faster since you lose the insulating properties of the ground and would have air flow beneath it.

An old boy scout trick is to keep a wet towel on top of the cooler to extend the life of the ice.

Here is the pic I was referencing showing some type of collapsble stand to hold a cooler- not sure exactly what it is, but this is what I had in mind:

if it's sitting out in the open sun like that image, I seriously doubt being on the ground would make it any cooler.
the best bet I've found is just to lay an spare old indian blanket over the cooler and stand to assist in shading it. I've not found a big difference to go to the expense of using real reflective duct tape and wrapping insulation on a cooler to be worth the investment.
I think it's something unreal about the determination of ice to melt at the most inconvenient of times.

When I bought my old Apache several years ago, among the hidden treasures were two vintage Coleman high stands. I use one for the cooler and one for the grill.

How about a cooler stand that attaches to the side of the tear? My husband attached two small "hitch receivers" I think about 1.5" tubing, then made a grate with hitch receivers attached to it. When we arrive, we put a piece of about 6 inch square steel into the receivers on the tear, and slide on the grate, and drop on the ice chest. And yes, I have a cooler cover I made, I'm thinkin that is where GuitarPhotog got the idea, since we were parked next to each other at the Dam gathering!

You're exactly right about where I stole the idea, Debby :D And thanks for it.

You notice that my cooler is in the same position as yours also. Good ideas spread fast.

Nice, but the side mount would not work for me since I have tables attached to both corners in rear. Kinda had a duhh moment when I saw the Coleman high stands...that is my answer.

I have the mount for a table where your cooler is...so I'm opting for my table and thinking of a possible cooler stand. With a cover, of course!!

Driftwood a cheaper alternative to the coleman high stand (IMM crap) is to go by wally world and get one of the folding side tables in the same area as the chairs in sporting good. Cheaper than Colemans and sturdier, we had a high stand and it got wet when it rained and the AL side pieces stuck and with my wife barely closing it they broke in 3 places. This is $10 and holds 25lbs

This is the one we picked up and works great
