Wow, a long time has transpired since my last update. Our county's (1) high school made a deeeeep run in the state football playoffs, thanksgiving, and now basketball season, and I have two cheerleaders.

We get our chances to build when we can.

Anyway, I got the hatch framed. It took like three weeks to get from plywood to this point.

I owe it a couple more stiffeners in the center.

I put two 1" x 1 1/2 strips: one along the roofline of the camper and one along the top of the hatch.

Image

The idea is to butt the foam up to those strips, then use the wood to hold the hinge.

Image

I'm going to use three 1/2" thicknesses of foam to construct the roof. I'm looking for an adhesive (mastic, subfloor adhesive, etc.) to trowel on the foam with a notched trowel. I'm also open to suggestions 8)

I. Can't help but think that mastic would work, especially troweled on with a notched trowel. I have a quart but as you are aware, there was an SEC championship game that had to be lost. That and a general sorriness kept me from a test of my own.

Cliff

Be happy to to help you out with a hatch. How's sometime between new years and the fall of the Republic. At the rate im going that's bout the best I can promise. :wacky :wacky

Ceiling installed, galley partition, lights, fan

Postby millstone » Tue Dec 20, 2011 5:25 pm

Put the ceiling in the cabin weekend before last. Not too photoworthy, just lauan glued/nailed into the spars.

Then, a thing that was bugging me to death over how to accomplish. How to partition the galley to the cabin. The hatch opening actually goes beyond the upper cabinet, which happens when you HAVE NO PLANS :D so I spent a lot of time trying to figure around that. I decided to attach a 1 x 10 to the top cabinet, pointed into the cabin. Then I glued (2) 3/4 x 3/4 cleats, one to the 1 x 10 and the other directly above, just inboard of the hatch opening. From there, 2 pieces of lauan, on either side of the cleats formed the partition.

Image

So, now we have about an 8"shelf on the inside of the cabin,

Image

and a decent looking partition on the galley side.

I also installed four LED puck lights, and that 10" computer case fan on the inside, and gave them a test run. Sufficiently bright, I think. Time for switches and solder.

But that'll do it till next year. New deadline: Lake Russell Park, Habersham County GA in MAY!!! Thnink I'll make it. HAHAHA!

Merry Christmas, and peace in the new year.

Mark ya'll should definately have it done by then but there is a gathering in May so you should check into that for the first outing! If it quits raining in next 7 days I hope to get mine epoxied and sanded so I can possibly start to paint before I head back on 1-3-12.

Merry Christmas from Sheri and Cliff and the 4 legged mutts!

LOL, I knew you from the Southeast when you starting talking HighSchool football, then looked to see you are also from GA... :applause:

My team is Northside and we lost in Game 14, fumbled on the 1 yard line fixing to score, other team picked it up and runs it back to score and win....

Enjoy your build thread. :)
