It Won't Be Long Now

Postby halfdome, Danny » Fri Mar 03, 2006 9:37 pm

I installed the hatch and tail lights today. I told my wife my goal is to have it licensed by March 15th so we can take it to the TOW Pot luck on the 18th in Auburn WA. The hatch trim is just sitting there waiting for the next time I work on it.
Wish me luck
, Danny

Mine will hit the road next week. Maybe we will cross paths soon. I won't be able to make the Auburn gathering, maybe the next one.

Take it easy,

Thanks Jim :D , I sure try to make it nice, anything less is unacceptable for me. Danny

Tom, you will be one of the first to see it. It was inspiring to see yours. The photos that I took of yours & talking to Ed made doing the aluminum trim much easier. Thanks for sharing. Danny

:D Doug, I'm using off the shelf radius fenders from the local trailer store. They are steel and are cheap to replace if necessary. They have a 1" or so bullnose edge on each side. I'll have them powder coated the color of the trim on my Blazer. I want chrome but chrome I'm told it would be $300 vs $100 for powder coating. Danny

schreimaster, Good luck getting yours done by the 10th, these are all proto types and take soooooo long to make.

(I don't know how you guys do the high lighted text thing)
Thanks Dean. It just dawned on me today that if I continue to work full time on this TD It should be done in 2 weeks and I can move it out of my shop for other projects. Danny

At some point not too far off into the future, I'm gonna have to make a run up your way... Might only need to go as far as Portland, OR... just don't know yet. Gonna need to locate some of that 104"-108" stuff for my roof and hatch. (Going to need 64" in the width)

Dan, If I had to do it again I would use only 4' wide flat sheets and make two over lapping/underlaying seams and one down on the side. I would lay a 1" flat piece of aluminum over the seams. I saw a 1957 teardrop (Old Coyote) done that way and it still looks good. The 103" stuff is too wild to handle even with a friend helping. My 103" aluminum was damaged before it was placed in my truck. I had to cut the fillet of the steak as one would say to get the best piece. Also I stored the rolls for over 3 months outside with a tarp covering them and now I have weenie dog tracks in areas that won't come out  . Danny

Dean,

Have you checked with Reliance trailer out on Jacobs? Dunno if they carry it, but might be worth a try.
