I bought it in summer 2009 so it's about 30 months old.. I run it 6-8 hours work days and 12 -16 on weekends.. I'm a year round trailer dweller and it's my primary source of electricity..bdosborn wrote:afreegreek wrote:I have a Yamaha i2000.. it's got over 8000 hours on it and runs like new..
Really? 8000 hours is almost a year of running 24/7.

I would have bought the i1000 if I had the rest of the things I have now.. I wanted to be able to run my cooking appliances, electric coffee pot, toaster, microwave etc. without turning everything else off to do it.. now with my battery bank and inverter I can easily do that.. the i2000 is great but it's idling 90% of the time and I'm sure it uses more fuel than a i1000 under the same sort of a load.. the i2000 is a bit of an odd ball for me, it's too big 90% of the time and too small to do anything else with.. it will run a 15 amp power tool but you can hear it's struggling hard and guzzles the fuel like there's no tomorrow.. seems like if you double the load you use 4 times the fuel..bdosborn wrote:afreegreek wrote:I bought it in summer 2009 so it's about 30 months old.. I've had a Yamaha EF1000iS for 4 years and I have 40 hours on it.

Its a nice generator though and I would replace it with the 2000i if I ever needed a larger one.

I change oil once a month (every other payday so it's easy to remember).. there's very little so it's cheap to do.. I also check my batteries at the same time..Trackstriper wrote:afreegreek wrote:I bought it in summer 2009 so it's about 30 months old.. I run it 6-8 hours work days and 12 -16 on weekends.. That's a whole lot of oil changes. I have a 2000i also and will eventually be using it in a similar fashion. What's your oil change regimen to keep it going for the long haul?
