Coleman CQ Lamp Light Up Picture

Hopefully my 502 will arrive tomorrow and I can light it and the 200a this weekend. Right now it's 45 degrees (it rained this morning so it's warm..) so I should have no problem playing with fire outside.

This house is a late 50's early 60's ranch...original windows, etc. Not even close to being energy efficient/sealed up. But after that stove shooting flames..yeah, I'll take my new toys outside until I see how they act.

My former bro-in-law left the extinguisher here. I've never owned one, but I was lucky I knew where it was before the house burned down.

Dang firemen bashed a hole in the wall in the garage. Said there was a hot spot, so it's good they did it..at least they didn't bash a hole in the kitchen wall.

Sorry...I'm in a horrid mood..came here to see what cool things you were all up to so it would cheer me up. So post more burn pictures already, dangit!!!

I'm bad...I usually have at least 20-25 fueled appliances sitting in the house, upstairs, downstairs hanging in the kitchen....I'd say that based on my heating bill.....my house isn't very tight, especially when I got the branch through the roof 2 weeks ago....Doug

Oiy Doug, sorry to hear about the new vent you got via tree and hope it is fixed quickly.

My house is a 1935 Cape Cod. Leaks like a sieve. I love lighting my Xmas Tree Coleman on the mantle. Sometimes, I just light the little Dietz. I do keep extinguishers around and lit stuff is never unattended. One day, I will get one of the lamps now that I know how to pre-heat them (thank you Coleman Keepers!).

When I bought my house, it had 2 fireplaces (one upstairs and one in basement). The basement one had a liner and the upstairs one didn't. I converted the upstairs one to a vented gas fireplace with blower. Ten years later, that little gas fireplace is still doing it's job. I've had more than one person come in and say "oh, you lit a fire for us" thinking it was a real wood fire.

FYI, the gas fireplace man who services my unit told me that CO detectors lose efficiency after 5 years and to get a new one after that time. He's never steered me wrong about stuff, so I am upgrading my CO detector this holiday.

I converted my 1966 200A, that I got last week to kerosene today.

Here is a light up of the single mantle lanterns I have that are running



From left to right, 1958 252A Mil Spec, 1944 242C, 1969 200A, 1966 200A converted to Kerosene.



I have the kerosene one running right now beside me. I can't say the odor of it is objectionable to me. You nose may run differently. I can't see any difference in the light between it and the CF 200A. Lighting is easy, once you get the alcohol going, Don't really need a full lighting cup of it. Right now I am using rubbing alcohol. The can of denatured I had in the shop had evaporated to almost nothing. Probably mostly water now and it was really hard to get fired up. Can went in the trash. Need to pick up another can of it at the hardware store.

Those look great Randy! I've got some kero Aladdin type lamps and if they are running and adjusted correctly...I don't smell them. If they start to soot the mantle...it stinks...I need to keep an eye on them. They are notorious for getting out of adjustment and leaving a black spot on the ceiling. It's sometimes hard to find the "sweet spot" where you get maximum light and it doesn't soot. That's sort of an initiation thing with them. Doug

I have two of those Aladdins also. Same problem. I quit using them decades ago. I have since learned that if you slip another chimney over the lower one they run a lot better. Sounds like to much bother and even I would say that that would not be to safe.

That is exactly what we need around here cool burn pics. That is what Coleman lanterns are all about ---- the burn. Burn your lanterns people and take lots of pictures. Now go go lite those lanterns.

I am kind of liking that kerosene 200A. Many have reported the smell is objectionable, might be caused buy the short top hats the later ones have like mine. But I did not find it to be very smelly, just a different smell from CF. I filled the font up and burned it kind of keeping track of the length of the burns. it went about 12 hours. I did find that there is a sight flicker that can bug a person a bit. Just need to be better alcohol that might light easier. The rubbing alcohol I am using i have to put the match under the cup and heat the alcohol up before it will burn. I have heard some people putting an asbestos wick in the cup. Not even I would do that. might try some fiber glass if better alcohol does not work.

Randy, I recently started using HEET gas treatment for preheating. Lights easier than the other alcohols I tried and no soot at all. Just another idea for you.

Nice job on the kerovert. Now give it a try on a 242, they are even better

I know, but after i found out my can of denatured had mostly de-parted it was a 20 miles round trip just to get some. Will get some or else Heet as High Desert says. Now that he mentioned it i knew that is mostly alcohol.

Or............ talk to my friends that work at the local sugar factory. They use some real good alcohol. A lot of it made its way into the fuel tanks of the cars for fuel line de-icing.
