We all know Gary, St Patron Ehhh?

Tonight on the way home from London, my wife Nicola texted me to ask if she could open a parcel that had been addressed to Mr & Mrs "Grizz" Of course I said, who is it from ? She texted back Gary in Oklahoma, and then refused to tell me what was in it, except that she loved the contents.

When I got home she gave me a cuppa tea, let me greet the cats etc, then presented me with the box in the photo below.

I will not explain it all, but will say that there was a challenge in the total package..... now the trick is for you guys to figure it out and let us know if you can see what the challenge is that Gary put to me. It is not too cryptic, just look at the contents and think a bit latteraly.

Thanks Gary. .... there goes my holiday break 8)

All three the cats went mad for the catnip, a super charged variety grown for Garys cats.

Once the challenge has been identified (and I hope you can figure it out) I will change the title and then start the build thread on here.

First clues are in the top photo.

In 24 hrs I will add another clue etc, etc.

You are going to Cuba on vacation and he wants you to smuggle some cigars for him.

You're going to build an off road "hippie" wagon. You'll then take the contents of your film canister (good job throwing us off with the BBQ) along with you're feather roach clips and get in a "camping mood".
When the game warden stops by you'll pop a fireball and try to act straight.
That's where you loose me.....but it has something to do with playing a guitar and dime bag of cat nip!!

I thought the old American Express credit card had been cut into the shape of a guitar pick.

Cheers,

Gus

How could you make a guitar out of that? :?

Maybe like this with matching amplifier.

I built this for a friend of mine.

Nice, Jack. I really like your scroll work.
Not only a guitar and amp combo, but in yellow Don Tomas? Good one.
I'm just beginning, have only made a dozen guitars and three amps.
Here's a sampling:

slow looks possible to me.

It can sound really good. Fun for playing with a slide. Grab a deepwell socket and have at it. They don't need to be amplified, that was just a fun project.
This is where I started from.

and the amp is based on this.

StPatrón those are very cool. I am procrastinating on finishing a resonator right now, uses a paint can lid for the cone.

Awesome. A resonator is on my list, love the sound. My current project is a bolt-on neck, wooden Punch Gran Puro box with single-coil pickup. Need to finish it up, can't wait to hear what it sounds like.

I find some similarities in teardrop and cigar box guitar building, notably the wide variety of personal styles. And, they make for a dandy camp guitar.

Sorry to hijack your thread Rian.
I forgot to mention that my wife is the artist so she does the scroll work. Those are my friends initials.

Don't know if there are any cigar stores near you Slow but my local one gives the boxes away free, as many as I will carry away. They have some great wooden boxes in different styles that I use for stashing guitar stuff.

Thanks for all the responses and references guys.

Jack, in my little world, there is no such a thing as thread hijack, there is just added content.

Some people can destroy a thrad, but as far as I am concerned, adding a question or a view is what makes it good for me.

I learn constantly, from others.

I've made 2 CBGs. I don't play a note, they are for my brother, the bluesman. The first one wouldn't play because I didn't know about neck length, etc. It was pretty, though. http://jkcallin.blogspot.com/2010/09/i- ... le_18.html The second sounds very nice. It has no frets. The next one will be fretted. We have to buy a fret ruler, though I could just transfer the location from an existing commercially built guitar. They're fun to build. I can knock one out in a day or so. I'd like to build a resonator at some point. Roy Rogers (not "The King of the Cowboys) has a 12 string resonator that, to me, has the most beautiful sound I've ever heard.

For those that think these things are just wall art or or joke, or like Slow, wonder just how good they can sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyTrbH16LZg

These are a couple of local boys that made good. The CBG was built by someone in Memphis I believe. It has three guitar strings and one bass string and plays through a guitar amp and a bass amp.

Mine have never sounded this good BTW.
