This ones for you Slow.....This Bighat is my families lantern. We toured the USA with it during the 60's . It's seen more miles and camp grounds then most people. It has been on a shelf in my basement since about 1989. The last time I (with my own family) camped. Well once you mentioned this Christmas Eve light up I went down and pulled it off the shelf. It was dirty and full of soot. Tank still had fuel in it. Did not hold much hope for it lighting. There was a spare generator in my parents old tackle box. We caring this box everywhere the lantern went. Included in the box with the generator was a snake bite kit, spare mantles, tent waterproofing for seams, air mattress repair kit, silicone, bandages etc. and a generator with a .99 cent tag on it. All the contents were hard as a rock, but they were there! I replaced the mantles and generator and pumped it up. I got some leaking from the filler gasket. But It tried to light it anyway.
It fired right up. With fuel from 1989 in it. This thing just wanted to live! I set it on my stove in the kitchen to burn. Every 5 minutes I had to pump it some. After about 20 minutes I turned it off and filled the tank with fresh fuel. Packed the lantern to take to the family Christmas Eve with the hope of taking some nice pictures of the burn. Well when I pumped it up the fuel ran from the bad tank gasket. Not wanting to burn down Dads house with his own lantern I gave up.
Merry Christmas Slowcowboy and may you and your family have the best Christmas ever!
