Mike's Cargo Trailer Conversion

Postby mikescchratz » Sat Dec 24, 2011 6:36 am

Okay, I am new here, but have been inspired by all the conversions. We didn't imagine being able to use our "Toy Hauler" like this. We started yesterday insulation. I will start to post pic later today! Thank you to all for the great ideas, pics and inspiration.

welcome Mike and family
insulation is the one thing most people do some use the spray foam to fill the cracks and crevices.
the hard part is figuring out the layout once done the fun begins.
only thing we really require is pictures well they aren't required but we enjoy watching others builds.
again welcome and come back often

Insulation Installed

Postby mikescchratz » Sun Dec 25, 2011 4:45 am

We got the insulation installed and taped up, even did the cargo door. Now we have to wait until after Wednesday, I promised to help an elderly couple move so I need all the room I can get.

Again, I thank everyone for the posts that you do, without them, I would not have known where to even start. It would have been the old Monkey and the football thing...

Okay, Pictures

I have my two best buddies helping me out. As you can see, one buddie ain't got no thumbs so he couldn't hold a ruler and we wouldn't let him play with the razor knifes... so he got an attitude, but he stuck around for moral support.

Starting to build Cabinets

Postby mikescchratz » Sun Jan 01, 2012 7:50 am

We have begun to build the latrine closet and the shelving in the front for the fridge, electrical panel and the A/C. It is coming along slowly right now. I needed the trailer last week to move an elderly couple and I am really glad I waited to get started. But here is some pics of the build so far....

I can't thank the poster before me that gave me the ideas and inspiration for this build. My wife and I are having a good time doing this together and planning this thing out.
Happy New Year to all of you!

Thanks for sharing. Looks like you gotta good start. You could let your no thumb buddy hold a board or sit on one while ya cut it.
Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

Size of Trailer

Postby mikescchratz » Wed Jan 04, 2012 5:33 am

kstephenson, I measured to where the "V" starts in the front and it is 14' and to the nose of the "V" is 16'.

My buddy has been more of the moral support than anything else. When you are on the floor doing something, he thinks he needs to be there to assess what is going on, and everynow and then give some encouragement by giving you a kiss while your hands are busy... commonly called "drive bys" in our household.

Toyhauler Build

Postby mikescchratz » Wed Jan 04, 2012 8:55 pm

This is as far as we are going right now. We are taking it this weekend for the final weekend of hunting here in Georgia. It is supposed to be pretty cold for Georgia, so we can check it all out. We have thrown a Queen size mattress in the back for right now, but eventually it will have fold up beds, one to each side and there be room for a Suzuki C90 and a Honda VT1300... at least that is the plan right now...

Mike & Family,

Welcome to the forum. I'm a bit late coming into your thread but want to welcome you just the same.

Please keep the pics coming as your conversion proceeds. As I am sure you've found, this forum is all about how we feed off of each others conversion ideas. We welcome your input and fresh perspective.

Mike
Look'in good.
I think your Buddy already took the best seat in the house.
I'm still debating on different ways to build my beds.

Mike
I was looking at the pictures with your old trunk.
Do you know why some trunks had the curved tops?
I was told that back in "the day" only the rich people had curved top trunks, that was so their trunks were always on the top of the pile. you can't stack the curved trunks. This way they were always first to get unloaded from the trains or ships.
Sort of makes sense to me...

Sorry I haven't been in here in awhile, I got lifed on pretty bad and had to handle some personal things.
I am pretty sure things are getting back to normal and I can start working on my trailer again.... it would be nice!
