Fiberglass radius

Postby Forrest747 » Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:32 pm

Somewhere in my brain i am pulling up the fact that fiberglass tape can not go over a 90 degree angle. That it has to be a radius of at least a half inch. I plan on taping the seams and was wondering about the edges from the walls to the roof and do i need apply a radius to them. Thanks

I think, if you use bi-axial tape, you can use as little as 1/8" raduis. Otherwise 1/4" should suffice.

yes you need some radius but that radius depends on the weight and weave of the cloth.. if you're using something like 6oz tape an 1/8" to 3/16" is about right.. just make a test piece first.. if the radius is too small the tape will lift way from the surface just past the edge of the radius area.. if it stays in contact you're good.. 45/45 bias tape will lay over a tighter radius than regular 90/90..
