Double Roofed CT?

Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

I like the aluminum rack idea the best for multiple solar panels and avoiding holes in the roof. Using tape may work until a panel has to be removed for some reason? Does anyone have pictures of racks to post? There are some details to consider such as attachment points, materials, fasteners, welding, etc. If you cover the top of a trailer with a rack/grid, empty areas could be covered with 1/8" aluminum sheet for extra reflection and hail protection. The solution to shade is more panels.

I'm not sure if the Land Rover 'safari roof' was pressed aluminium (all the LR body is aluminium, due to wartime steel shortages when it was first made!) or some other hard material, but it is certainly rigid, not fabric.

It works because the forward movement of the vehicle blows air between the cabin roof and the safari roof, so the cabin roof is only at ambient air temperature. Without the vehicle's movement, it wouldn't work.

For an exposed trailer, one logical adaptation would be make some sort of chimney effect where as air under the safari-like roof got warmed, it would rise up by convection and so draw in ambient air. That requires a serious slope, say 45 degrees or more, which is probably too much slope for the solar panels.

No ...... the Safari roof was made of aluminium ........ because there was SO much aluminium left over after WWll. Nothing to do with steel shortage ........ we just didn't need to build so many aircraft. Remember the first Land Rover was built in 1948 ..... 3yrs after the war ended.

(another case of the yanks trying to change British history   )
