I gave up political news a few years ago. One of the best things I have done in a while...

I gave up on the political new a long time ago. It never changes.
You will find that after you quit. In a year or two you will catch a political news broadcast and they will me talking about the same thing.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

Slow let me tell you about my deceased uncle he lived to be 96 years old.
everyday he would listen to the news and tell me the world is coming to and end,
he did this when he lived here in Ohio and continued doing it after they moved to Florida.
they moved to Florida in 1974 he died in 2008.
in his mind the world was ending every day for over 30+ years.
people talk about global warming, animals becoming extinct all kinds of things.
There are grooves worn in the rocks near my house caused by ice pushing them during the ice-age. there are woolly mammoth bones 50 miles from me.
global warming? yep been going on for hundreds of years.
animals extinct? yep again I don't see any woolly mammoths in the field out back.
while it is a bad state of affairs we live in now things will change and get better.
Just this last Christmas I met a lady I know in a store she had boxes and boxes of blankets, sheets, pillows pillow covers
when I ask her what's going on she replied "my kids are all grown and working so I'm donating these things to the homeless shelter instead of gifts for the family"
made me stop and think I ask if I could help and handed her a fifty dollar bill.
so cheer up buckaroo better days are coming......

Everyone here is on the right track.

Besides, Slow, it stresses you out because you can't do anything to change it. So, it's not sticking your head in the sand, it's living a more healthy lifestyle. Working on a lantern or planning a gathering of friends is a rewarding experience and is good for you. Camping is very healthy..

Keep at it Slow. You can do it. There are things you can change..like the condition of your lanterns. Focus on that, and learning more stuff from other teardroppers. Learn to cook in the DP if you haven't already. Start practicing for your gathering so you have a good dish. You and your folks will be eating, so it isn't a waste of time or anything else. Some of the best chicken I've ever had came out of my DO.

Leave the world's problems to someone else. Make YOUR world a better, more stress free place!

I say go in a different direction. "Slow for President". I don't know you, but I'm pretty sure you would do a better job than anyone has in recent times. I think your first stimulous package should include a teardrop and a proper tow vehicle for every American that want's one. Send me one of your signs, I'll be proud to put it in my yard.....Peace.

I go back and forth. It feels good to ignore the news for a while but its like an ostrich sticking his head in the sand. The problems are still there. So sometimes I really get into it other times I take a break.

I wish the news agencies weren't biased.

I hope I pick the right side when the revolution begins :)

I watch very little broadcast tv, watch alot of History Channel, Discovery, Learning, Speed on satelite, don't listen to broadcast radio. On satelite I get Iowa channels as local stations(I live in South Dakota), we watch a Iowa channel at break and lunch at work and all it is political commercials, "vote for me". I watch the weather at noon for the forecast, if bad weather is forecast than I will watch the 10pm news for any further updates, otherwise I don't watch the news.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

We turned off broadcast TV some 37 years ago when we got married. Good decision. Turned off radio pundit shows almost three years ago and I think that probably saved me from the deep depression I was heading into. Now I'm only mildly depressed. I do listen to a limited amount of radio news, about 5 minutes a day is plenty for me.

That stuff just sucks the life out of me and there is too much I still want to accomplish before leaving this earth.

Good idea, Slowcowboy.

I was always taught that just because it is in the newspaper or on TV, that it is not necessarily true.

I've found that I'm in a much better mood by not reading the local daily newspaper because it is so biased, and gives a very negative view of everything. I buy the Sunday newspaper just for the sale ads, but I don't miss it if I don't remember to buy it.

I figure if I read the local news clips on the iPhone, that's enough news for me. Those news clips normally give the facts, and not the commentator's personal opinion. A lot easier to digest.

I'd just as soon watch a good game of basketball on TV!!!

Just my thoughts.

if people paid more attention to politics and understood the fundamentals of a Representative Republic you wouldn't have debt as far as the eye can see and people with names like Reid Pelosi and Obama running roughshod over the constitution with the assistance of the media.. you wouldn't have clowns on the street yelling "this is what Democracy looks like" when in fact the USA is not a Democracy.. it's a Republic, if you can keep it..

I fully understand the frustration of dealing with the idiots in Washington, on TV, in the paper, and on the radio and all of their political nonsense ... however ...

As citizens of the United States of America, it is our civic duty to understand the issues and know the candidates when it comes time for us to cast our votes and elect our representatives and leaders. My political beliefs are very strong and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to voice my opinion in the only place that it really matters ... the ballot box. The only way that the people will elect the person who will do what the people want is to know the candidates and be educated on the issues. I care not where you get your information, hopefully it will be from a variety of sources, but you better d@mn well know what you are voting for when you cast your lot. It is my opinion that a lack of knowledge and apathy with the political system is what has landed us in the situation that we are in now.

'nuff said ... now back to your regularly scheduled program.

I am going to try to do my best when online not to surf or go though the

national news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its a bad habit and its bad I belive on your health.

I belive one can get obsesed with politics and the national news and you can't do anything to solve the problem.

I don't think any more that solving a politicals problems will get you a job.

I don't belive one little guy has the prower to change a thing in washington.

and I am convenced being obsessed with the national new everyday is just more of a health hazard than a help.

I have a big addiction with this so I am going to work hard at weaning myself off following the national news.

I know its just with a election year not going to get any bettor and is going to get a lot worse and ugley.

its time for old slow to get off the news and go work on a coleman lantern.

or find out more information for the wyoming teardrop gathering.

its time to do something other than veg out at the computer and dook it out on the comment sections of the national news.

cross your fingers and root for me. but this is one habit I am going to try to over come this year.

slowcowboy.

Slow you are so right I did that same thing. I only look or listen to the things that effect me. My stress level is way lower.

I am an elected official and I have a steady stream of email and crap coming at me from all directions. The national news is all twisted truths anyway.

Do what makes you happy you will live longer.
