Lee...IPE doesn't do up gold bond vents at least last I heard they weren't, it's not one of the colors they have. You're easiest fake is a gold bond 413 stove, but that would be considered very poor form.

You do need to watch out on those gold bonds.

We went into a local antique mall today, I picked a 228E, a 220F in green metal case with funnel, decent price I thnk.

There was a Preway Model P4821 for $15...... Needs some love. I left it, not sure about it. We also found a military stove model M-1950' guy was asking $200, way over priced compared to eBay, no storage container either.

your right - IPE WILL NOT do a gold bond vent. At least there is a level of professional integrity there. They have been known to a few - but the vent MUST be gold bond color to begin with - that provides the level of authenticity. Kinda hard to fake a proceline GB to start out with - Kudo's to Jeff for that move.

I just got back from the bootfair. Advertising works. Two vendors, who had non-visable Coleman stuff asked me to see their stuff. However both had high prices. So there you go. I did score some goodies. Not as good as Lee.



I got this lantern for $3 I dont know what make it is. It says hong kong on the collar.



I got this 425 B. Its all there and in pretty good shape. Its ugly and painted black but good bones. It pumps and pressures. $10





And I got the Metal Coleman Ice chest for $5. Its has some bad rust on top but liner is in good shape. It will be a good storage box for the teardrop.

Kirk...were you hunting at Denios? Some of the regular vendors there that have permanent booths there leave the stoves sit out and they fill with water, that 425 looks like it's been sitting in one of those booths. It's not a bad find though...you'd think they could at least drape some plastic over stuff. We picked up a mid 20's Spiro 2 burner last summer there and it had the same look to it...only it had the standing water in the bottom back edge when we got it. That's tough on them.

Lesson here is...it pays to advertise! Good finds. Doug

I'll check out the info on having the vents redone on my others..they aren't bent, I know it might be cheaper to just buy other ones since my lanterns are common, but why not just restore.

Gotta go play and see if I have enough fuel in my newest 220f...

If it's a 220 or 228...there are lots of them around with perfect vents on them. You could pick up one of them for the price of having a vent redone and have 2 lanterns...rob parts to put 1 cherry one together. Besides...a collector needs to have a bone yard to go to for parts.

Your best bet on a vent is to make sure there is no rot up on the upper vertical portion, like where they rot out on some of the perforated ones and not bent. Once they blast it, all the cancer will be gone, which could open up some big holes. What you give them is only going to be coated with porcelain. They aren't going to restore it. To get a great vent back...give them the best you can from the get go. Doug

You are so right. My bro and I have picked at Denios hardcore. This stove came from under one of the permavenders large wood tables. No rust in the tank. Its gonna clean up nice.

Yeah....ha ha...everyone gave me crap on an ivory tank on my 3H...I cooked on it anyway at the NorCal Coleman thing...hey, it's just paint afterall....Here's an idea...put a lid on the skillet! Just a suggestion....

You should have seen what Kevin and I did to a 426 with a huge iron griddle on it at the Dam....cooked like 3# of bacon on it....the stove had greascicles on it afterwards! I think KEVIN...got it all clean.... Doug
