Has anyone use this stove (Pic added)

Postby Big Dan » Mon Jan 09, 2012 1:56 am

Has anyone used this stove or seen it in action. 65,000 BTUs. Looks like it will boil alot of water fast but I was wondering how it works with a fry pan? Looks like all the heat is in the center. Any info Please? http://powerstove.net/ I like how it breaks down and its made in the USA

Can't tell from the pic but its big. It will hold the large stock pots or fryers.

When I use my cast iron fry pan on my camp chef (30k Btu), I find myself quickly warming the pan, then turning it waaayyyy down to actually do the cooking. Without self control, there is such a thing as too much horsepower. Nevertheless, that's an interesting stove. Made out of stainless ... should last a long time too. If the flame control is there, at $139 +shipping, it could be a really good deal. If anyone gets one, let us know how it works out.

many home brewers use a stove that is very much like that. They are called jet burners. They mostly smudge up the bottom of the pot. This has a baffle that fits in the top of the burner. It might make a difference with the smudging. They will boil 5 to 10 gallons with out much trouble. This is much more portable than a home brew stove and may or may not work better.

And those "jet burners" that are popular in the homebrew community lack fine flame control at the bottom end. They are great for getting 10 gallons of wort to a boil quickly, but I wouldn't want to try eggs over easy on one.

They say this one goes from 5000 to 65000 BTUs. Im not sure how low 5000 is? But I like how it breaks down. Looks like a person could make one.

Two of the burners on our cook top go up to 5000 btu the third up to 7000. I will go along with the too much of a good thing thinking.

A home gas stove burner is usually 7,000. If there are multiple burners, the smaller one's about 5,000 and the "pasta boiler" could go to 12,000.

Flame control on a unit designed for 65,000 max is going to be challenging.

I think my main concern is that It looks like the flame come out like a torch and not spread out like a regular burner. That seems like it would make a hot spot in the middle of a pan instead of a dispursed even heat. If the lowest setting is 5,000 BTUs and that is to high to say, simmer something. Could a person make a dispursion plate so soften the temp and the flame?
