have been lurking and studying for weeks and weeks. finally registered and will be getting going on the project in earnest soon. still using up lots of time and tablets and spending WAY too many hours trying to learn from everyone else's experience.

bought frame - as a welder i make a pretty good carpenter. 5x8 box tube from iron eagle - ordered drop spindles, axle moved 8' aft, rear stabilizers, no stake pockets, and hopefully lots of thought. hope i LOVE this thing, because i'll never be able to sell it!

my design is somewhere near a grumman. 56" high from top of top tube (yeah, i know a sheet of plywood is 48"!) overall body will be about 10'. 60" interior width. (between wheel tubs is 63". will post pics and yell for help on a regular basis, i'm sure... cheers! jim in freeland.

Hello Jim and welcome to the madness. Before you finish your TD, you will be totally engulfed in the forum. It will keep you drawn to it for more info and ideas. It looks like you already have a good idea of what you want. It looks like you will have a beautiful TD when you get it done.

I really like your trailer. That thing is perfect for building a TD on top of it. It looks like a commercially built trailer. What did it cost you, if I may ask? I would like to have one of them to build on. Are those 14" or 15" tires? Either way, the bigger tires will be much better than the little 12" tires used on some builds. They give a better ride and the trailer handles better as well.

With the profile picked out and a trailer, it won't be long before we see saw dust, right?

Be sure to go to the Build Journals and start one there so others can keep up with your progress. Oh yeah, take plenty of pictures.

Good luck on it and I will be following along as you go. ;)

thanks for the greetings and encouragement. the trailer is a commercial product built by iron eagle. i bought it from kipert's in olympia, and yes, as you suspect, it was kinda spendy. i don't weld, i don't trust chinese bolts, and i realize i will probably keep this trailer or sell it to a friend. so the trailer was $1100. they are 15" wheels, but i DO intend to trade the white spokes for some black steel wheels that will take chrome trim rings and baby moon hubcaps. my element is black on black. i wanted to match the wheels on the element, but they don't come smaller than 17" and they are ungodly expensive.

i won't have a garage until april, so i have a long planning and stocking period ahead of me. today i am meeting with a guy who has the ability to turn my drawing into a large paper template for the sides. shopping for a router. checking out roof fans. reserarching undercoating. lots to do!

take care. we'll keep you posted!
