Longtime lurker here with a question

Postby fast eddie » Tue Jan 10, 2012 8:40 pm

I was thinking of putting my 6x12 utility trailer to work doing double duty this spring as a tent trailer.
Preliminary plans are for a 4 or 6 ft by 8 ft platform across the top of the bed rails near the tongue to mount a tent on. This way I can utilize standard sheets of plywood. Then use the rear portion of the trailer, 6 to 8 ft of space, as the galley. I foresee mounting brackets along the bed rails for a stove, grill, small bar sink, and counter space.
The bed / tent platform would be sized to fit inside the trailer for transport and then pulled up and placed on top of the trailer bed rails. Securing it would be easy with bolts and wing nuts. I’d stiffen it up using 2x4 framing studs.
I feel pretty confident in the build portion but I am not finding much information in the way of a good quality tent that has a 4x8 or 6x8 foot print.
If anyone has any information of a tent of this size, I’d greatly appreciate you passing it along.

If you can find a GOOD upholstery shop they can make you exactly what you want.

I picked up a book titled "Custom Automotive Upholstery" from Barns and Nobles just recently while working on some old car projects. I find my self referring to it more often than that though. It has a section on convertible tops. I'll look through later on to see if I can give you specifics on the books and what the chapter has to offer. There.s also a truck camper called the flip-pak that I find inspiring as far as tents go..just food for thought though! Welcome to the forum; Don't be shy! This isn't just tear drops lol.. I'd love to see what you have in mind. Any new idea is a good one.
