Things that don't fit anywhere else...

This is Waldo. My daughter brought him home her senior year of high school. He was 3 weeks old, the size of a guinea pig and lived in a shoe box in her bedroom. One morning when she couldn’t find him, where’s Waldo was the first thing that came to mind & it stuck. She took him to college the next fall. He dropped out of school the middle of his first semester, moved back home and hasn’t gotten off the couch since.

If I knew retirement would be this much fun, I would have done it right out of high school.

This was our English Springer Spaniel. His Australian Kennel Club registered name was Baleroo's Might and Magic. We called him Sam. He passed away 3 years ago. He was a schmuck, but a very good boy. He was also a first-class ham. DW was taking pictures of her garden to send to her mother, and Sam wouldn't leave her alone until she took his picture too...

This is Chase (the Swamp Collie - or red colored Golden Retriever) and ShooBee (the little yellow Lab mix.) Both are rescues - Chase from some people who couldn't keep him in the 1 bedroom apartment they lived in when they found him running the streets. ShooBee was a 3-timer at the animal shelter - supposedly she was a fence hopper, but we've never had that problem with her. In this pic, they were chasing snowballs...

Image

Shoobee was named when we got her, so we don't know where the devil that name came from. We gave Chase his name when we first got him, because if he got out of the yard, he led you on a merry one. Here they are in their pup tent...

Oh come on! You KNEW someone was going to go for that line! 8)

these sure are some great pictures of your pets
Do you taking them camping with you or do they stay at home?
I have taken Java camping on a month long holliday when we were tenting it....that made for some interesting times :? as for the new addition not yet but I'm hoping so that there will be a many of an adventure for us. :campfire: and who knows maybe I can use her to help pull the wagon idea that I have...

We named our Black Lab pup Shadow Aven McGregor. When we picked him up we were walking to our car and he followed us all the way so he shadowed us. When it came to the middle name it's a joke. He was born on Shadow Avenue.

I've always taken the dogs camping. I show them, so they're used to be on the road and being travelers. Since I used to have too many dogs (five) to keep them with me in the tent, I used a beach cabana (those crescent shaped tents you're supposed to put lawn chairs in on the beach) to hold their crates, and then tarped them over at night to make it watertight. When I was camping with my young nephews, having dogs and kids in my set-up meant I got some of the more remote sites in the state parks, which worked out great for the dogs AND the kids. And on one memorable stormy night (the kids were 3 and 6) I put the dogs on down-stays between them - built in four-legged insulation. ;) The dogs have also camped at dog shows, in their own tent, for the last 28 years. They've all become good campers (sometimes after a rocky first night or two.)

Now, with just one (or sometimes two) dogs, the dogs sleep in the camper with me. They also sometimes sleep in their warm, dry crates in the car if the weather has been a monsoon, and they sleep in the dog tent when we camp at dog shows.

I also take my cat, Churro, camping and traveling. Camping with Churro is a little trickier - he's a bit of an escape artist - but I'll never forget the looks on people's faces when they discovered that yes, there really was a cat in a crate in my car, camper or in the ex-pen on my site.

Heck yes camping with the pets is really our reason to camp
We have to take two trailers and. The cougar bait
BTW horse camping areas have real space between sites

Here are Ambrose and Gordon, my camping dogs:

My pets are usually hand me downs, so I don't often get to name them, but I like giving them common names. I got away with sneaking out early from work to pick Gordon up at daycare, until she found out Gordon was a beagle.

We've usually had cocker spaniels. We got on an Irish name kick, and
stuck to the "D" names for the last ones, the late Darby [aka Darby Dawg]
and the late Dugan [aka Doogie Oogie].

We've switched to easier maintenance dogs now.

Our current canine friends are:

Dixie Doodle: [responds to 'Dixie' or 'Doodle'] a Boston Terrier and
Manchester-Chihuahua mix [some local southern 'breed' - looks like
an up-sized Jack Russell]. There's a "Yankee Doodle", so why not a
"Dixie Doodle"? [since we got her down south here in SC.] She is my
ever faithful companion and 'protector' - all 20-25lbs of her! Big Bark in
a smaller dog - but only when necessary!

-and-

Caili [aka Caili Girl] [A full Boston Terrier] [Back to the Irish names - from
the Gaelic "Caileen" for "girl" and "Caeli", Gaelic for "Party!"] , so we have
a "Party Girl"! A 15 month old, 15lb bundle of energy, in love with
everybody she meets and curious about her whole world. One of the
sweetest little creatures you'd ever meet. She has, and uses, more dog
toys than all of our previous dogs over the years -combined! And, she
knows which one is which - you tell her to bring you a specific toy and she
will pick it out from all the rest and bring it to you!

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo
