Probably not cheap, with upper cabinets and a side door being a challenge. However, it appears that it can lower itself enough to fit in a residential garage.....

Looks really expensive!

Wonder what the cost is for somthing like that?

what would the pay-back be gas vs extra cost?

but It is one sweet trailer, one I would like to own.

Thanks GPW. it does tow great, About the only thing i would change would be to move the drawers out leave the bed down it would give me more storage or a place to put a fresh water tank and pump. It was a little awkward getting dressed at first but now it's not that bad, other than that we don't have any complaints and enjoy camping in it' We spend our time outside any way.

Kevin , Thanks !!! It does look very Nice , and I really like access to the roof , without a ladder... Guess it fits in a garage huh ... ?
Inside a trailer , we do mostly sitting or lying down .. walking around is done outside.. so no reason for the extra weight and drag of a taller CT ... JMHO

GPW,

After having spent some time in our 6'x10'x73" (last number is the height inside at the crown of the domed roof) I wouldn't want anything shorter. In fact, if anything, I would prefer a couple of extra inches in height. I am 6' 1" tall and enjoy being able to stand up in our CT. That is in large part because we like to actually hang out and be able to cook inside our CT in inclimate/less than ideal weather (or when bugs are prolific at night). I prefer to stand fully upright at the forward galley while cooking where I can use the microwave oven or set up my Brunton propane two burner stove (yes I keep the CT well ventilated when using the propane stove inside ), or wash my face/hands at the galley sink. Also, when sitting inside at the table I like to be able to stand up to move around without having to duck my head (I spent too many years in the US Army inside an M60A1 tank and got thoroughly tired of always crouching, ducking, and squeezing myself in. :(

For the supposed wee bit of gas mileage saved over a foot of additional height of a shorter CT (never proven) I'll take the additional height for convenience. I'm an old guy so convenience reigns. 8)

My thoughts only.

Don I too like the ability to stand up I'm not that tall but I don't want to walk around bent over.

on the other hand Kevin's build is very well done looks like he had a plan and carried it out when he was building.

my needs are different I want everything inside.

when I had my other trailers I camped/traveled year round.

I often stop at truck stops, road side rest, restaurants to take a nap or get something to eat.

when I get to a camp site all I want to do is unhook lower the jacks hook up electric pull out the awning and be done.

I spend time outside but I want a television and porta-potty I spend months in my trailers so they have to be long time liveable.

Don, Thanks !!! I'm 6'3" and understand all too well the need for extra height ...
For our somewhat specialized use for a CT (EVAC) , we'd need mostly a sleeper and just a place to hang out ... and get away from everybody else ...
The last EVAC , 6 weeks , was a great learning experience , showing me exactly what we needed ... Nothing Fancy , just Comfortable and air conditioned...
During the last "event" , I did the cooking for Everybody , and used their home facilities ... Once they found out the "Cajun Chef" was coming , I had free reign in everybody's kitchens... so don't need anything in the trailer more than an Igloo, toaster oven and coffee machine... My Solar cookers work outside so no problem there..
And being an old Van camper , I'm used to the shorter space ...
Yes , and I'm OLD too :o (62) but still pretty agile ... and as long as the floor is padded somewhat , crawling around is no problem ...

Hopefully , we'll have No use for it , save the occasional short trip , or hauling things around... like the Band equipment ... But EVERY year , we have to be ready to split with only a few days notice ... Hurricane season is a serious time of year for us ... Gotta' be ready ... A shorter CT would allow it to fit in my Garage/Studio , so it could be kept always Ready to go from June 1, to Nov. 1... and I could use it as a small office , or "doghouse" when the old lady gets perturbed at me ...

The Jayco is just falling apart , despite my giving it constant attention , just too much work and expense to maintain ... ... So a replacement will be needed soon ... Seems like Jayco's experimenting with dry fit windows and felt backed TPO roof is causing most of the problems ... Something the factory denies , but no longer uses .. Rotting floors , delaminating outsides ... been a problem ... as I repair one thing , I find another problem .... something I know won't be a problem with a CT ... That and the Jayco's effective cargo capacity , is much diminished considering all the options , something the dealer did Not actually tell the truth about ... Naturally I'd want to carry my favorite things along , so they don't get blown or washed away ... Can't do that with the J ...

Still looking around for the right CT deal ... nothing yet , but I'm optimistic... Lately , with the success of the Foamie TD , I've even thought about building a Foamie CT ... :o Lighter , cheaper and probably all I would need for our purposes... and I can carry lots of stuff ... if needed ... Figured I could build a Deluxe Foamie CT for < $1k and < 1000lbs... That'll work !!! :D

smaller CT

Postby seabee74 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 12:15 am

I bought a 5X10 v nose American hauler, put in two side windows and one in the door. I took the 3/8 ply off the walls and installed rigid foam insulation between the metal studs and put the ply back on. I took out the factory fan and put a FanTastic in and rewired the interior lights to work off the batt I put in the front cabinet. There are two benches with lids for storage and a table between which all breaks down into a bed. There is a wall 16 inches inside the double back doors for the counter top and storage for the cooler, coffee pot, toaster, gas cook stove and a pass thru to the inside dinette...extra lights were mounted in the galley area as well as the inside...a portable AC unit is vented thru the floor and the inside front counter top supports a microwave for cooking popcorn to watch the movies on the flat screen...there is also storage space for a small porta potty. A small ceramic heater does a bang up job of keeping the whole thing toasty warm...in the spring I will coat the top with a white elastomeric paint...build pics at [email protected]

Well, just finished my 1st camp in my "not so tall cargo trailer". 4x8x8 and around 800# loaded.

It was a high of 28 and a low of 12 last night. With just a small ceramic heater I was able to achieve 106 degrees interior temp in an hour...so needles to say I turned the thermostat WAY down and still slept very warm.

When coupled to my truck the roofline is just 1.5" above the cab of my truck and I was able to pull with only a 7% reduction in fuel consumption.

Thanks, not as fancy as your plans...but it will do in a pinch. Thanks for the thread that gave me inspiration.
