Besides the Campfire in a Can made by Camco, what are the other brands? Which uses the lava rock?

Amazon has a Camp Chef, and it uses the lava rock. It's cheaper than the Camco but looks larger.

Thanks, Slow, because I hate decisions. I, too, thought this one looked most portable. And I like RED : :)

Yeah... REAL Beer!

It is funny that I was just reading this thread and I got some "Kudos points" at work, and you get to redeem them at a gift site and I bought one of these fire rings today just to try it out! It was free and a decent size one so what could it hurt!

I could see me using it at my trailer park on my cement pad around back where I am in the trees and where it could still be woodsy and safe for the park rules. I will definitely got some more "coals" and see what I can get er to do though!!! HAHA

Where I worked until I was "Down sized" they had started to give out those kudo points things also. expect the stuff they offered was mostly crap. I didn't redem a single one of them. They all went into the round file. Thanks Dell.

Oops.....did I mention who my employer was?

Hehe yeah there are definitely crap items at the lower levels, I let my points build up over a year. Points are like 250/500/1000 increments and I built it up to 5000 which gets you the "real" stuff. I also got a good camping chair and a charcoal chimney starter and a 5000btu spotlight, and that tapped it dry! hmmm ALL camping stuff! hehe

I would consider my (and this selection) as and "Alternate" fire solution personally :)

I also believe that a "real" fire is best and the most fun and entertaining, but in situations where this is not feasible, do you simply go without? No I say! bring on the propane, because beyond that, that only other option is to go inside and not have a fire at all

Or go inside and have a fake fire, like I do!!

I agree. It is an alternative campfire choice. I think it's a good one. But when posted as a 'fake fire' it was just to much of an invitation to poke fun...I don't think anyone is really knocking the idea. Just saying they like the real wood campfire and that would be the #1 choice.

I like the propane one..just wish the tank didn't look so horrible. I like scorching my shoes on the edge of one of those. Kinda reminds me of growing up in old houses where there was only a single floor furnace for heat. We used to dry our sneakers on the grate overnight after a rain..pilot light worked great. Only problem was when someone left the key in and it got kicked. Yep, the sneakers melted into the grate and the house filled with burning rubber smell....good times!!!

I will have to admit that I have warmed my footsies with one of them gizmos. Not every one has the access to fire wood like I and many others do. And now that some very invasive species of insects and pathogens are about, transporting wood is not a good idea from some areas. Though I have come to hate my ash trees and think the Emerald Ash Borer sounds kind of nice. Not all people think that way. And with the pressure put on the remaining forests and so many dunder heads can't control their camp fires. Of course many of them will still find a way to start a fire that would truly amaze.

I am thinking about getting one for my dad, he manages one of those ministorage places where you live there too, so there's just concrete everywhere and I know he misses his firepit. He was sitting around the fire pretty much every day when he lived in a regualr house. That might be an awesome workaround to where he can't have a "real" one!
