Movable drop floor

Has anyone here built a camper that has a drop floor that is able to be dropped all the way to the ground when set up and raised for the road?

I am thinking of building a standy to use for ice fishing so I would like to be able to drop the section of the floor in front of the door (maybe a 3 by 5 area) all the way to the ice so I can fish through it. Doing it this way would also allow me to keep the over all height under 6'5" so I will be able to store the camper inside.

I don't know how far it goes, but vairman's 'Super Tear' has a drop floor that goes up and down.

Thanks for the links to threads showing removable floors. I plan to do a combination of a raise-able roof and a drop-able floor behind the axle so I can fully stand up and keep the profile low.

several have a non-movable dropped floor.
used as a foot well when sitting in a tear covered it makes into bed.

AS Pete said, I have a deep foot well that I can remove the mid portion of the mattress and top floor and set inside somewhat like a couch. Then as an after thought I made the bottom of the foot well removable so I can stand in it. I don't know how well this would work ice fishing. But I have been in some windy weather and just setting there with my feet hanging out, there was not much air movement inside. It might work for you and not have to make a kneeling axle or a complicated drop floor trying to keep the weather out. I would think that... A. Warm air will stay high and B. You will probably have well insulated boots on anyway. You might not even notice it. Of course I have never ice fished.

This drop floor doesn't go all the way to the ground but it's too nice to miss posting it again - I think I show these photos once a year!





You have to work out how it operates - the big metal drawer drops down using the over-centre mechanism in the foreground. The tricky bit is that the handle sweeps through most of the cabin, so I guess you have to lean in through the door to raise or lower the floor.

I usually end up showing my hole in the floor several times a day at camps. That sloty thing to the right of tire is a step stool I built as mine is rather high cause it was built to go on rough and some 4x4. Which ended up making the trailer plenty tall for me to stand in there. Right now I can't remember how much head room I have. I am 5'9" tall. And in that picture it looks like I have at least 6 inches of head room. Some times it is more, sometimes less depends on the terrain. and how you use the jacks
