Raiding the Trailer

Postby stumphugger » Wed Jan 18, 2012 4:02 pm

This was taken this morning.

The power went off, and I found myself out raiding the Little Guy's supplies.
The Little Guy is in the metal building. That building came through the last big snow unscathed, so the trailer should be fine.

The snow has changed to rain. A fun time.

Just been puttering around and not getting much done.

I have a friend trying to move to Wash. She was towing here U-haul and stopped at Medford OR last night. She woke up and found some yahoos had stolen the trailer. And she has 7 cats and one dog along for the trip that is now stalled.

That happens a lot.
The bad guys know they are packed full of goodies.
You never leave the trailer. No even for a minute.

I tend to believe that things happen for a reason. The stolen trailer may have stalled her but that might also have kept her from having an accident in the snow and may have saved her tow vehicle and even her life. Hopefully, they'll find the trailer and she won't have lost too much stuff. I hope she had some kind of insurance. One never knows.... Anyway, thinking like the above may keep her from feeling quite so bad.

The mountains here are also suppose to get some snow. Down here on the Snake River Plain we got less than an inch of snow today. Maybe about that much tomorrow. Kind of warm though, raining in town, ( not here ). Kind of need either some snow, or some warm temps. The frost line is getting down near my water pipes.

A similar incident happened here in So. Cal. A family was moving here, and stopped at his brother's house for an evening to get some rest after driving all night. Everything they owned was in the (large) Uhaul trailer. It was only parked for a short time to see it driving away.

They got some local media news coverage, and the community, and a generous donor gifted them money, and household items, clothes etc... It was a good ending after bad incident.

Well you can blame the snow else where on me. After last year we decided to get a snow blower and I picked up a used electric start unit and we have had almost no :snow

Pete 1" is supposed to be about what we get as well. One of the local weather men said he kind of thinks there will be a pay back eventually. My fear is if it is this warm now what will the summer look like.

Whenever traveling with a U-Haul (which we've done many many times) we always tried our best to park it backed right up to and or next to or behind something that would make it impossible to get out from behind the tow vehicle, and impossible to get the U-Haul's doors open. So, unless they wanted to steal the tow vehicle too, or at the very least move the whole rig, they couldn't get the trailer from behind the vehicle. (The best thing was to back it up to a building, tight, where the U-Haul doors were almost touching the building. If you could locate it next to a wall, or a pole, AND backed up against the building, even better.)

Of course, depending on where you were this wasn't always possible. But that's the first thing we searched for when stopping for the night.
