My two main hobbies are motor cycles and kayaks. I want to build a trailer to tow my sea kayak behind my honda PC800.

Can any of you point me to some one who has made motorcycle trailer? I am well aware that I could use some design assistance.

The weight of the kayak is about fifty pounds. My idea at this time is a single 2.5 inch rail 18 feet long. About 15 feet back the axle would be attached with two 45 degree diagonal braces per side. It would look like a diamond from the top. The ball hitch should be connected with a rotor ring between the ball and the main shaft to allow for normal rotation of the motor cycle during riding. Does anyone know of a commercial source for one?

How wide should the axle be. I am thinking the wider the axle the less sway I am going to get. This trailer has to be dead stable.

I would look at the bike forums -ADVRider or the honda ST site- for that.Quite a few guys on the Goldwing site pull trailers also.

Payload of 50 pounds and the weight of the trailer Huh?

What about a fixed hitch and a single wheel trailer. Negates the need for an articulating hitch as the trailer will lean with the bike. Single rail no need for the diamond configuration for stabilization of the outboard wheels.

No worry about hanging a trailer wheel in a narrow path situation. Anywhere your handlebars will fit the trailer will also.

Here is the picture of my favorite design........

As you can see it articulated up and down as well as side to side so you are not transfering these loads to the rear of the bike. It also has it's own suspension to further isolate the bike from road shock.

I built and towed Eggbert with my Goldwing and was never real happy with the pot hole reaction. If a wheel on the trailer dropped into a pot hole it would jerk the bike unnervingly ( is that a word?)
