Hello: Welcome to your new obsession. At least that is what it did to me. Glad to see your progress. I bought the Kuffel Creek plans for my first build before I knew about this forum. I built the Cubby style one too. I followed the plans but I did not follow them to a tee. They are great for us first time builders. I think after you build your first TD, you won't need to use any plans for your next one. Keep up the good work and also keep the pics coming.

Weekends Work!

Postby jande » Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:30 am

We made pretty good progress this weekend. Spent Saturday morning getting the interior panels and cross braces in.
Image
I had plenty of help that afternoon so i decided to tackle the ceiling panel. I was so excited to have that done I forgot to take any pictures! By sat evening we had the roof vent cut out and fitted. I'm worried it's going by to fast!!! My winter project will be done before winter is at this pace!

Sundays work

Postby jande » Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:47 am

Sunday,
Emma managed to get the first round of ceiling insulation cut and glued.
Image

While she did that i cut and installed the backing for the interior and galley cabinets. It probably cant be seen in the photos but we made the sleeping area a full seven feet. We lost ALOT of galley space, but i think it will be better for us in the long run. (our dog Sage takes up lots of room, and refuses to miss a trip of any kind!)

The center cabinet brace isn't glued in yet. I made it extra wide to put a 110 and 12v plug.
Image
I'm glad we spent a little extra on the interior side panels. I think we will be happy with the birch. Im planning on using the leftover in the interior cabinet doors.
Image
I guess next ill put some flooring in. We have some leftover Pecan from the house. since it wont be seen very often hopefully my lack of skill installing flooring will go un-noticed!
I did hook a batt up to all the wires and check the current to make sure a nail didnt find its way into a wire!
Still haven't decided on a counter top material, maybe something free or cheap will pop up this week!

Yeah I bought the Kuffle Creek plans as well. Lisa insisted upon it that way we really know what we are getting ourselves into. it had alot of great ideas, for someone that had never built one before. WOuld of never thought to tar the bottom of teh floor. Even though i changed teh profile and the set up it still follows the basic formula. sleeping for 2 cooking outdoors and small lightweight. KC uses teh HF trailer which is fine, but for me I wanted something a little beefier. so its a good jumping off place and led me to here, in a round about way.

I wasn't extremely happy with the HF trailer...at first. Now that it has a structure on it, it seems 100% stronger. Im still going to do a little beefing up on the tongue as it has a little flex to it. im a little weary of the hubs and tires, but they seem to have a good following here and the price can't be beat. Mine has been a little different from the CK plans from the start, but like you there have been many things I never would have thought of!!!

I managed to get a fuse box built and wired. I sat the battery on the back and ran a temp wire to test all the lights and the fan.

The back cabinets still haven't been started

Hopefully the hatch will be the next hurdle!

I built the frame for the hatch and put a 2ft x 4ft sheet of diamond tread on the front to protect the front from rocks etc....
A diamond tread td would be awesome!!!!
