Any time you start excluding folks because they don't fit you lose something. My personal experience is that affinity groups will self regulate. I am on the IRV2 forum and most of the folks there are not in small RV's of any sort, and for the most part they are clueless. I can't even start to count the number of times I have written to those with electrical problems "a VOM is your friend". I deal with judge-mental folks all the time and we don't need it.

Why in the world would a tiny house thread be on the teardrops and tiny trailer forum unless we are broadening our horizons. Most are built 8 wide by 20 to 24 foot on double axle trailers and we even have a seperate topic area for these monsters .

As some of you know I intend to dive into the small house experience and I truly feel without the help , guidance and without the experience I have gained on this forum and the previous projects I have dove into I would have serious doubts I would have the confidence to embark on this experiment

I have learned a great deal from all of you and have tried to pass it on when needed. I have spent almost 4 years and 6000 posts getting and giving help in all aspects of tiny camping tiny RVing and tiny living. If your tiny trailer has AC and an eat in table are you now an RVer. We spend a great deal of our lives trying to avoid being stereotyped as kooks in tiny boxes. So now we start rockthrowing amongst the members

I have been on gatherings where I was jokingly offered a class C motor home for my teardrop trailer. I had fun tradeing barbs with the owner.

I personally will visit and talk with anyone willing to talk with me and by limiting who and why I will not talk to them only limits my knowledge.

One of our best gatherings was at Calico Cali. we had teardrops, vintage trailers, cargo trailer and newer travel trailers and even a 40' motor home. But most of all we had fun and everyone cooked dang good dishes. so for my .02$ we can all learn from each other no matter what your sleeping or peeing in you just got to get out and talk to each other. Be friendly to your neighbor camping next to you.

I agree with Shadow Catcher. I think the forum will be self regulating also because people who are attracted to the gold-plater RV aren't going to find a lot of interest to them on a do-it-yourself forum written by mostly die-hard minimalists. And the few that do end up here by accident or out of curiosity might just be open to a new experience.

I think the member with the 24' conversion was showing ingenuity with his rebuild. He was in keeping with the heart of the forum which is do it yourself independence and creativity. Furthermore he was recycling and reusing something that, at least for him, had outlived its usefulness. And he would probably seem right at home with our group when he started rolling all them outdoor playthings out the back end.

And he did post it under Non-traditional designs. Which seems like the perfect place for it.

Is someone who is willing to devote the major portion of their indoor living space to dirt toys an RVer or a camper? Now that's a "whole 'nuther question."

doug hodder wrote:16'....pretty big...so what's the difference between camping and RV'ing at that point? I'll welcome anyone around a campfire, but it's more about the future and direction of the forum. Doug

That was close. :o Good thing my trailer is officially 15.5ft or Doug would not be allowed to talk to me. But then that might not be a bad thing. :R

I don't really see the need to rules about this - it's all a bit 'my gang is better than your gang'.

But I feel we should include and welcome pretty much any trailer that someone builds at home - that, rather than size, seems to be what distinguishes folk here.

I guess I'm one of those black sheep..

My build (http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=37391) was 7' wide, 12.5' long on a 16.5' bumper to tongue frame and has heat, A/C, shower, toilet, two sinks, holding tanks, microwave, refer, and a small cooktop.

I came to this forum because it seemed to have a lot of friendly people who were willing to share building ideas, techniques, and experiences. There's not too many places where you can go and say "I want to build a camping trailer" without being talked down to and disregarded as a nutcase. My intention was to learn something from the people here (which I did), and wanted to 'give back' to the community by sharing my build, techniques, and experiences. I thought I had done good when I saw people reference things they picked up from my build thread in their own designs.

Even though that build is complete, I still read this forum every day, and would love to build another trailer in the future. If I'm "too big" or "too well equipped" to post here, then so be it, I'll go away quietly. I just wish someone had told me my information was useless before I spent tens of hours taking pictures and posting in as much detail as possible for the benefit of others.

Just my $0.02..

I know I'm a total newb here, But .
I've been in the RV bizz for 28 years fixin the stupid things. A trend I am starting to see is I have several customers, unrelated who were full timers for several years in monster 5th wheels.
Several of these customers have now settled back down and released themselves from these moster rolling homes.
But due to their nomadic lifestyle they find they can't just sit at home. Vintage, self builds have become their new passions. So they can still get out of dodge. And it seams after having the biggest and the best their choice of direction is small, smaller and smallest.
I've had other customers who upgraded from RV's to cottages and regretted the move because they lost the comradery of the campfire.
Remember, when you hit the campground, everyone is there for the same reason, my reason is lower blood preasure...lol, oh and beer.
I myself am on my first build, and finding this site to be the best resource I have found, even for an old rv salt
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

I'm very sorry that you feel that way. Your build thread is one of my favorites on this site and my husband and I did a lot of oohhhing and aahhhing while we looked at it. What you built was amazing and inspirational and I appreciate you sharing very much. If I thought for one second that I had the skills to build something like that I would be all over it.

Congratulations on your build. (Your brother is a lucky man.) I can't wait to see what you do next and I really hope it will be posted here for all of us to share, regardless of size.

I like all types of trailers let's not make anyone feel unwelcome.
this is the best site I have ever joined very nice people
I use to own an all fiberglass trailer and I joined their club I have spent many a day at get togethers
some in my fiberglass trailer and many since I sold it.
I try not to park in the middle of the group I have a mobility scooter I can ride from my trailer to the cook outs, campfire ect.
they make me feel welcome.

This is a fun mid January topic. Got people talking, got the blood flowing, got people sharing their opionions of why we are here. While I personally believe that the teardrop and tiny trailers are great, I see no advatage to outlawing larger trailers. People will hang out if they feel welcome, and move on when they don't. And regardless of size, there is much to learn from all.

yeah we can limit it to Benroys and Grasshoppers and everyone will be just fine.......or we can let all participate and try to let the big boys post in thier unconventional designs part of the forum, because I am sure there is a MadJack in training somewhere. I am at 13 feet at last measurement and about 6 feet to teh roof. i rememeber the neighbors coming to take alook at Charley when we first moved into the neighborhood. they have an avaerage 5th wheel and the other a nice 32 footer. So for these guys to look at Charley and say wow made me feel good. Janet (Lisa's sister) thinks I am nit for building this and was even appalled that Lisa went along with asylum. Jennies family thinks its cool and Jennie shows it off as much as I do. Nice to get new toys to build with and try out new skills. Not donating to Mythbusters and definatly not selling her.
