OK so our New Years Resolution is to get our Teardrop camper underway, so times for and introduction.....

We're a young family living in the South of France, eco-minded and on a fairly tight budget. I'm a scenic Carpenter, making exhibition stands and staging.
We're itching to get our project underway so we can start taking weekend breaks in the amazing country around us.
I would like to build something like the Camp-Inn Raindrop camper that has the bunk beds in for the kids. The only things is that looking at the specs. this morning it comes in at around 650kg weight and we have to keep under 500kgs for legal reasons.
I've already bought a chassis that I'm happy with and should work fitting a double bed and bunk beds in.
Has anyone else build a camper like this and if so can you post some piccies. I'm a little stuck on designs for now, but I'll get there.... Just keeping it under the 500kg weight limit may prove a challenge.....

It sounds like a great and fun challenge. Have fun building, planning, and camping.
And welcome to the group. Always nice to get more people from all around the world!

As a carpenter I would think building your own trailer would be fairly easy. The 500kg weight limit (1100lbs for those of us in the US) shouldn't be that difficult to acheive, depending on how big the camper has to be. You will probably have to use a lot of lightweight materials.

Our new teardrop is rather heavy, but that's because it was built on the frame of a very heavy steel utility trailer.

What is your tow vehicle? I'm guessing a small car?

Hope it's not a Citroen 2CV! Not sure you can pull a teardrop with a 2 cyl motor!

Loving the reply Martin.... Thankfully no 2CV round here
Our tow vehicle is a new Skoda Yeti Greenline, loving it soe far and just waiting to get the two bar fixed and then we can begin the build

The chassis I have at the moment is an old Quad carrier trailer, so it's not to heavy. As I've put on another thread I'm looking a changing the axles to a lighter un-braked 750kg one. All being well I hope to have all the chassis ready in the next month. After that I've seen a guy on here I think that built the walls, floor and roof from a sandwich of foam insulation 5mm ply. This is what I was considering to do, to reduce weight and keep it cool in summer and warmer in the colder months.... Must try and find that build thread again....

I'll keep you all up to date....
