Gold Bond Trio -- Lets do a Contest!

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby doug hodder » Fri Jan 27, 2012 11:07 pm

Kirk...I've got an old 413 sitting here that I'm either going to doctor up a 442 Clone or a gold bond out of, need to scrounge a tank. I figure, I've got some leftover silver metallic from the Rocketear, and some red that I can shoot on it for the 442, or get a cheap qt. of alkyd enamel for a gold bond. Gold bond or not...to me, it's just another 413G unless it's an absolute cream puff, but then I'm not that type of collector. A GB lantern is a different critter though, but I won't pay for what they go for. Doug

I just like the color...I'm not trying to fool anyone, so I might just paint the 'wrong' stove..esp. since I want a brown tank. But who knows. I'll see what I find out there...if I do find the 'right' stove it might just get painted gold and brown anyway.

But if a real gold bond was to show up, cheap, I would grab it and run!

Like I said before I am pretty much done with big stoves. I like the idea of some cool custom colors so I am going to do that with several 425s. I will come up with a formula for Gold Bond in a really great alkyd urethane. I will bring some to the dam if you dont have it by then.

Maybe I will have to buy ONE. Just for a sample of the color.

Dragonfire....you find the stove you want in GOOD shape, degrease it and clean it all up....buy my paint and I'll take it apart sand it, paint it and put it back together for you. If you want a matching combo to your trailer...that's the way to get it. Doug

Wow!! Thanks Doug...I may just take you up on the offer!! Trick is...I haven't found ANY stoves lately. But I'm looking...and I'll be headed to fresh hunting grounds on Friday,, so I may find something then...

Just had second thoughts on the old jackstands...I think I'll paint them harvest gold instead of 'turd' brown. They will be easier to see/find!

Tomorrow's project...soak them and clean them...but realized I don't know what to put on the threads so they don't rust again :?

If its a 413 you want, since we are all in a giving mood tonight, I have one I will give to doug for you to be customized. I have more that I need.

Well, since Kirk was really generous and made me a deal on his stove, I've got a nice 413 sitting here that I was going to "doctor up". I need a tank for it since someone dumped the original and did a propane conversion on it. Silly people! It's straight and is just begging for something other than a hunter green on it. Doug

Just got beat out by a few dollars! - I was bidding on the items but it went over my set budgeted amount - so I was out at $200.00 hope it went to a good home.

I was real cheap, I was in for only $100.

How about making a Gold Bond 500A. Or a kerosene lanter conversion in GB?

I was in there too, but as usual, I didn't bid. I wait to see how things are going...if they stay in my range, I'll bid close to the end. If not, then why drive up the price for people who may be friends on here with more money set aside for the item?

I was really tempted at the end. Really tempted. Dang I wanted those. But instead I bid on a 275 without the etched glass globe with a cooler (no sticker...makes me wonder if it was a repaint, but if so, who cares? I want a brown one, and will buy the correct sticker!)

So I'm part way to my dream set up.

Guess I need to look for a truck tomorrow to go with my new brown Coleman!

I am not that interested in Gold Bond. thus I only bid $100

I felt safe at that price. Now Mil Spec, AGM stoves, and their descendants. thats another story. Oh and a Western Auto Revelation Lantern.
