I will add vinyl tubing around the top lip to get the edging a little neater. I like it because it was cheap, and it can go through a few knocks and still protect my now growing collection.

Before this paint dried on this tube, I ended up with these this afternoon! So now I have to make more carriers. 200A's: 1963, and 1973

Cliff, you beat me to it. Glad it worked out so well. I will be making a few to take my lanterns to gatherings. Thanks for posting this.

Steve,
Sorry, I didn't mean to steal your thunder. It was a great idea, and I already had the concrete form in the garage. It was a timely post because I was trying to decide what kind of case I wanted to protect my lantern from getting scratched.

However, my one lamp has now turned into 8 new ones. I just acquired six from my dad today. Now I need to find a good cardboard box with foam dividers.

My chairs talk to me when I set in them. Usually it is a long stream of curse words.

This thread got me thinking ( finally ) I wonder how much it would cost to have boxes made sort of like the ones for the Mil Spec lanterns. Would not have to be nearly as heavy duty. One size could hold the 220, another for the 228 and another for the 200A. Three sizes could hold about 90% of the lanterns out there.

A customer of mine is a cardboard box manufacturer, I will ask he to give me prices on generic boxes of the sizes we would need ----------- great idea Randy.

For transporting show or "special" lanterns I think a cardboard box would be about the safest and most compact way there is. Now if it is a beater lantern the plastic cases are pretty good, though the clamshells are rather bulky. I have one of those that the top slips over the top and hooks to a base. That is pretty handy but I would not want to move a mess of show lanterns that way, can't stack them very well. Uniform cardboard boxes would stack better and not move around as much if not in another box. If you ever get to look at a Mil Spec box you will see what I mean. Does not need to be that heavy
