Winner: Cub Scout Pine Wood Derby

Postby Alfred » Sun Jan 29, 2012 10:22 pm

Hey Gang,

Our family's latest build - My son's car, which he named "The Raptor", won 1st place in his age group, and 2nd place overall in the local Cub Scouts Pine Derby on Saturday. He competed against about 50 cars there, and for the 2nd place overall, most of the kids were older than him. We're relatively new to the scouts, this was our first Pine Derby, they made it a real event, a lot of fun for everyone involved.

Great -

In my sons scout group this was a big thing. In fact the Dad's really got caught up in it that we had a seperate contest for the Dad's and other family members who wanted to compete......... Lots of fun.

I remember one year when the youngest made a school bus. The neat thing about it - it placed second if I remember right - to make it all he had to do was make two cuts - windshield and hood.

I hope you and your son will enjoy the scouting experience. We sure did..........

+1
Thanks for your support.

Get involved and help these boys understand what they can do and how they can do it. My youngest went on to be a EAGLE SCOUT and now is in his last semester of studies in Parks and Recreation degree. 4.0 cum and he really is growing into a very nice - centered man. It pays off

my kids are in AWANA http://awana.org/on/demandware.store/Si ... ault-Start we have done a "AWANA Gran Prix" (pinewood derby) for years now. This year I am out of work with a pulled tendon in my arm, so the designs had to be easy for me to cut for them. one kid (7) made a tow truck with a matchbox car on the bed, 3rd place for design, the other kid (9) made a ruler, cut the car to about 1/2" thick and paint the lines and numbers on, she got first place for racing (out of 24 kids) and 2nd for design. My 4 year old got to do a matchbox car division, they have a track made by hot wheels or matchbox that looks just like a mini pinewood derby ramp, she got 4th. At the Awana we used to be in they ran the matchbox cars in between the lane tracks on the big ramp, three at a time.
