"slide in" design

Im new here so forgive me if Im on an old topic without realising it but... has anyone ever built a small camper with out wheels or hitch? I already have a number of trailers and I like to go to tractor shows so I was wondering if it would be possible to biuld one that would slide right in to which ever trailer I was using at the time? Just camping? .. then my 6x 12 lanscaper would do... Hauling a tractor to show? toss it on my car hauler with the tractor... just asking. thanks Brian S

YEP!



Just rolled the trailer under the body and set it down.

A few things you need to remember is how to keep it safely attached to the frame when towing. You will also have to provide the needed highway lighting while still being detachable. Any other elective camping electricity a/c and / or DC for courtesy lighting and other uses should also be easily detachable. Make the body floor like a turtle. A torsion box with a sandwiched 2x4 halo and a 5/8 or 3/4 top and bottom.

As you can see Rip Van Winkle's floor does not have the top ply. This poor picture may help to describe what I an suggesting.



The top and bottom plies are inset into a rabbet top and bottom on all 4 sides then glued and screwed. Foam (in blue) can be added to insulate and add ridgity from racking corner to corner and some added support in the center.

I built Eggbert this way and with the removal of 4 bolts the body was removed in less than 4 minutes.
