Would this work?

I spotted this trailer the other day, and it seems to be in decent condition. I don't know the dimensions, but it could possibly be kind of short. What does it take to make something like this suitable for a teardrop project? If it was lengthened, I guess the extra length would have to go in front of the axle? I wonder if those motorcycle racks are part of the structure, or added on? (Sorry for the crummy cell phone pics.)

This one is going for $350 obo. It's got the large wheels that I want, and it's already got fenders and a CA PTI plate, for what that's worth. Should I look into this, or would I be better off spending the money on a custom trailer?

The bike rails can be removed, any bike trailer that I've seen didn't need them.

I'll bet that you could get a better price too.

The fascination w/ bolt together trailers mystifies me when solid trailers like this are all over. You'll start building on a strong foundation.

If you have to pay to have the frame extended the economy is gone.

The link will take you to a Craigslist compiler. You can set it to search in ever-expanding circles from your home location.

Near Austin there is a boat/boat trailer salvage yard. When I was considering a trailer build I went there. The most that he wanted was $350 and I never even made a counter offer.

Looks like a good and well built little trailer. Too bad you were unable to get the dimensions. Looks to be between 5 and 6 foot long and with a little creative cantilevering front and rear you can easily stretch it to at least 8 foot, maybe even nine.

I just posted a torsion box floor pic that would allow you to easily span the distance without fear.

The expanded metal subfloor invites a couple layers of blue foam to be added under the floor for a rock guard with insulation value and would add additional support to the floor.

i bought one of those for 100 dollars so i could make it into my homedepot trailer. cant really bring home drywall and plywood in a jeep. for that amount of money i would see about a custom trailer.

For a bit more money you can build a custom trailer that is exactly like you want it.

I'm in Simi Valley, have the means and skills to help, and it would take a day, or two at most, to fabricate one.

Cheers,

Gus

I've been leaning towards a custom trailer chassis for a while now, figuring the cost of an existing chassis plus modifications would make a new one worth it. I just haven't followed through on my local guy because I can't settle on even an outline for a floorplan yet. I may give this guy a call to see if I can measure it and find out what he'll take for it. More than likely though, I'll pass on it if it's too short. Thanks for the input!
