Kat had surgery on her gums a week or so ago. Has been living on "smush".
Got the stitches out Thursday, and it's finally feeling better, so I took her out to breakfast.

That went ok, then we went looking for maple to make the cutting board countertop in the tear.

Nothing at Lowes or Home Depot. Went to head across town to the only lumberyard left, and found a screw in a front tire.

Dropped the truck off at the tire place, walked to the lumberyard.... no maple. only red oak, poplar, and pine....

Walked back, picked up the truck, and went home. Decided to work on the tongue box.

Took one of the sides I fit last weekend, laid out the curve for the top, and cut it out. (12" radius)

Then I noticed that I had skilfully cut the radius on the bottom corner, instead of the intended top corner....

Now eating lunch while the biscuited patch is drying.....

Yup,

I was trying to do some painting on one of my many "bad days". I "kicked the bucket" (paint that is) over three times before I called it a day. I spent fair amount of time "behind" my pressure washer that day.

I'm better now at recognizing when I should leave well enough alone and "pack it in" before I screw up.

Been there, done that.

At least the other side has the radius on the right place.

I need a blended angle along the radius from the 90* top edge to the 35* front edge. I could grind away with a belt sander, but there's a cleaner way.

Here you can see where the curve needs blending.



First, make a template to match the curve.

Next, make a ply sled that holds the router at the magic angle. 35* in this case.



Here's the router bit matching the angle at the front.



Now, KEEPING THE ROUTER SLED PARALLEL to the top edge....



you can see the router bit matches the square top edge.



Fire up the router, keep the sled parallel to the top edge, and blend the curve.

Hard to see, but there is a smooth transition from the 35* angle in the front to the 90* angle at the top.





Once the patch dries on the other side, I'll cut the radius on the correct corner, and blend it like this one.
