Stretch Tear

Postby Chuckles » Tue Feb 07, 2012 4:02 pm

Well I have been lurking long enough! It's time to start bulding! I am under strict orders from the boss that I cannot undertake any new projects until her new dresser is done. I should be done by the end of the month (13 drawers to build).

My brother is the welder so he is building the frame.

Here is my design. It has everything a I need:
1- A real queen size mattress
2- A foot well with standing room (standy for the wife, slouchy for me)
3- Lots of storage
4- Outdoor galley (see #3)

What do yo think. I'm still kicking around the idea of a sun/moon roof covering 3 or 4 feet of the roof.

I plan on making the walls from 3/4 inch studs and insulation with a 1/4 inch exterior skin and 1/8 inch interior skin. Epoxy and paint for the exterior.

Would a fiberglass covering be advisable or is it overkill?

I'll keep you updated once I start making sawdust.

Very interesting design. Need to make sure that you will have enough clearance for the door arched area to clear the fender when opened. Also I personally would use the fiberglass cloth. Not a hugh added cost, but would hold together better over the long haul than exopy alone.

You could also think about having some doors on the inside that could access the galley area.

 Good call on the door clearance. I'll have to make a mock-up to test it. I could always go with a suicide door but I'd rather not.

Interesting design Dan. You might consider putting a radius on the overhead cabinet edge in the cabin. That area looks to be a potential head-banger, at least for me. :)

Looks Cool,

I was thinking the same on the upper cabinet (rounding the edge). Although to be honest I don't think I could hurt anything important.... It's just my head. :? Mabey I'll hold off installing it until I can test it out to see what kind of clearance I need.

Thanks all for the compliments and the ideas!

Hi Chuck, I made a cardboard mock-up of my interior to check everything out. I sure helps with these clearance questions.

Cheers,
