Hello from Michigan

Postby awg1011 » Sun Feb 05, 2012 8:25 pm

Hello everyone, a couple years ago my wife and I bought an old camper, a 14' 1961 Freeway, and fixed it up. We didn't have a clue about what we were doing and made only a few (OK, many) mistakes (oh boy did we make a lot of them) and learned a lot of lessons. We have used it many times and have hauled it all over Michigan and parts of Indiana.

Although we enjoyed it a lot, I've been thinking that it would be nice to have something smaller for short weekend trips, something we can hitch up and leave with very little prep. After seeing some teardrops, I've started thinking it would be cool to take what I learned fixing up the old Freeway and build my own.

So now I'm in the research/planning phase, and will be trolling the net for info, it looks like this site has a lot of it.

Welcome to the madness. My suggestion would be to join Tearjerkers (see link at top of the page) and come to some of the gatherings and see what folks have.

Already joined, saw a thread here about a gathering this coming weekend in Hell, so I joined to get more info. Not sure if we'll be able to make it, a lot of other stuff going on that weekend, but it would be a great chance to take a look at some teardrops and talk to some owners to get some advice and ideas.

If you can't camp that weekend simply stop in for a visit. The Michigan group are a great bunch. The wife and I made the summer gathering last year and just wish we had the extra $$$ for gas to motor up more often.
Growing older but not up !

Welcome here and to Tear Jerkers.
If you can't join us in Hell, there's another gathering in May.
On the Tear Jerker's site you can look back at photos and see what others are bringing to the gatherings. You can also post your situation and I'm sure you'll get data and info.
Hope you can make to HELL. It's going to be good COLD fun!
