TONGUE BOX WATERPROOF HINGE

Postby Roberto » Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:27 am

I'm trying to build a Tongue Box and want to set it right up against the trailer wall. I can't figure out how to build a hindge that 1. would clear the wall when opened, and 2. be water tight.

Any suggestions?

You could use the Hurricane Hinge as used on the galley or you can use a stainless steel piano hinge mounted over a strip of inner tube rubber.

You'll have to set the hinge in 2-3" from the trailer to allow it to open all the way, and a hurricane or stainless hinge would work. One fella' used neoprene under the standard hinge to seal it. Or, you could have two small doors that open outward to the sides or a sliding lid. I thought of using a vintage Coke cooler at one point, but settled on a Model A Trunk that I got at a yard sale.

Roberto-

That's the hinge I used for my tongue box, galley hatch and interior sofa/bed.

Worked great!
