Who was JC Higgins

Postby mckenney56 » Mon Feb 13, 2012 3:54 pm

Here's a little history for you. This little thing is what inspired me to build a canoe carrying camper. I think it originally had a folding tent on top, sort of a early popup camper. It belongs to a paddling buddy of mine. It holds quite a bit of gear behind those doors and we have loaded 3 canoes on top before.

Edit....Anyone know what's wrong with my images?

From looking at the fixed links that Mike did, it appears that copying the URL directly from your gallery
doesn't work like it did before.

Compare: This link copied from the gallery:

[ img ]http://www.tnttt.com/gallery/image_page.php?album_id=643&image_id=80955[ /img ] gives this:

Image

However this:

[ img ]http://www.tnttt.com/gallery/image.php?image_id=80955[ /img ] gives this:

Image

The difference is:
the extra parameter: album_id=643&
and its image.php not image_page.php

However, doing a little url hacking, it appears that the image_page.php script is the offender. The script image.php doesn't seem to care about the extra parameter.

So just change "image_page.php" "to image.php" in your URL and it will work.

Exactly...

if you remove the _page from the link you posted, it'll work. I just did that for you.

Also, it's better to grab the Image-URL from the box on that gallery page.

Back on track....

JC Higgins was a Sears & Robucks brand name in the early 1900's.... John Higgins was actually a Sear's employee....

Contrary to popular belief, reports of JC Higgins life are "greatly exaggerated" (those two words are borrowed from Sam C.). This mythological creation was modeled after John Higgins who was an employee of Sears, Roebuck, and Compay. He was born in Ireland and his Irish parents had no class (I can say that because I am half Irish and my cousins are 1/4 Irish and think they are more Irish than I am because their name is Gallagher!) and didn't give him a middle name. Sooooooo, Sears decided that JC Higgins sounded better than J Higgins so THEY gave him a middle initial. This name, JC Higgins, was used to market sporting and camping goods at Sear, Roebuck, and company. There seems to be no evidence one way or the other that he had any particular expertise or interest in either sports or camping.

More "World According to Gus" but I got all this irrefutable information from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J_C_Higgins

Cheers,

Gus

I think J.C. Higgins married Betty Crocker. They had one child, Sara Lee :)

I wonder if the camper was a Heilite camper - tent trailer -[I remember seeing
them in the 1960s] that was supplied to Sears by them and then rebranded by Sears?

http://www.heilitetrailers.com/

They had a box model the size of a double mattress with a storage compartment
underneath with 4 access doors. It was done as a single wheel and a regular 2
wheeler. The pic looks like it to me.

They seemed to be pretty basic/minimal but well made and durable and light, I
assume, as they were all-aluminum.

Cheers,
