I'm guessing it was a real deal. Lazybones could probably tell you more about the license numbers on the side...I'm guessing it's a British scooter (Vespa) but the Italians for sure were known to pack more on a scooter than ever should have been. Often it was the only vehicle for a family...I know a guy who was on one in the 50's with his parents and several other siblings...all at once. If the thing still moved, then there was room for more.

When I read my post I thought I'd better clarify...Vespas are Italian. But very popular in Britain, as are Lambrettas, also Italian. The one pictured is a Vespa. I know Brits were caravan crazed, and the license numbers on the side of the mudguard look to be British, but I may be wrong. And I'm thinking only the Italians would be either crazy enough to build a teardrop for a Vespa or that sure of their product that it could pull such a contraption.

No. I am not building one for my Vespa. I have a friend who did build a trailer for his P200 Vespa, but not me. It would slow me down too much!

The Vespa is French - the number plate ending in 75 identifies that it is from central Paris. I've only ever seen this one photo of the towing arrangement and I can't see how it works - it looks like it is some sort of four-bar mechanism and I can't see why you'd want something like that.

The trailer is the French Ailette, a copy of the German Eis Piccolo. The only way into the cabin is through the hatch and the trailer is actually a little smaller than even a teardrop - body length is around 7 feet.

Thanks for the info!! Nice trailer...I guess if you need a Vespa trailer you are going to have a tiny teardrop!!

That is so cool...I'm going to pass the word to my scooter buddies who posted this in the first place. Someone is probably crazy enough to build one, if they can figure out how to tow it!

Here is my alternate tow vehicle. Kind of slow though.
