Leaf spring question

Postby Early 1 » Thu Feb 23, 2012 7:08 pm

I picked up an old utility trailer that needs a new set of springs. Looking at a couple sites that carry springs shows for instance a 3 leaf with a #1250 rating and another with 4 leafs rated at #1000.
My question is, will preformance differ with more leafs or less? Also since I have to reweld new brackets on what would be the difference between a 20" and and a 25"? Thanks in advance.

Extra length improves the way the trailer rides, as for 4/1000 or 3/1250, the weight carrying capacity is always paramount but, in saying that, using a longer span normally means using more leaves to attain a similar carrying capacity.
